I know that many of you visit other forums that are more receptive to our cars than this one. Just wanted to know, has all the negatism and bashing diminished your enthusiasm for the new goats? I know that the new goat does not stand out like the older ones and that doesn't bother me when I'm driving my '04. I absolutely love the modern muscle despite the fact that it has no heritage with the original. What are your thoughts now that you have owned it for a while?

I like my 04. But then I like anything even a truck with HP! I have a SAP hood being painted right now so it will have the scoop look of the 05s. It corners good, ran a 13.50 @ 100 mph and gets 22mpg driving 90! The negative response to the 04s is what got me the deal I got on it! What else NEW for $24K will perform with it? Maybe a Mustang but I'll bet they are higher $.

The aftermarket is coming out with stuff for them so they will only get better in performance and appearance.

Nope, the bashing makes me like the car more because after driving it I know the bashers are grasping at straws. And actually the new GTO stands out exactly like any old one did in its day (except The Judge of course). It looks like many other cars on the road until you get close enough to tell what it really is...sleeper. Once people notice it though, it gets a lot of double-takes though which is pretty cool. Can't beat the performance, fit & finish for the money, and it's limited production so it's destined to be a collector car.

The bashing made me hate my car so much I treated it to a new cam and headers Friday. The dyno tune will be done on Thursday.

Dang it Troy, tone down that car. It's too loud now, or stop driving past my house (LOL, actually it's not too bad sounding).
I sorta like the looks of the newer '05 dark blue (I'm more of a old-school person), but as long as they're not dealing too much on price, I'll wait. And the rear seat entry thing still bugs me. Upgrades still seem to be a do-it-yourselfer (cam/heads/headers), which is good. A lot easier to work on than a Firebird.

Raer seat is a pain but they didn't add 400lbs long doors to sag like my second gen F body. Seems like they could have slid the seat up further for entry.

Possibly, but then the extra length in the tracks would have been exposed when us tall guys slide the seat back to drive it....

Price, though, price. Even a "Deal" on an 05 is over 30,000.

Somewhat true. However, once you add the bigger brakes, the hood (or delete from the '05), split the exhaust and add rear panel, then increase the HP...you're there!

No. That's why I almost bought one. But since they couldn't seem to get me one in the color I wanted, I had more time for my cool head to prevail . . .

That question could be asked about a lot of things in life that are still just too darned expensive . . .

Absolutely agree. Compared to other cars for performance/fit/finish and price, it's a steal. That just goes to show how much the others are overpriced.

BTW: The Holden HSV GTO (with the LS2) lists for about $60,000 (U.S. equivalent). Fully loaded with features like sat-nav, etc. it's $75,000 (U.S. equivalent). The standard Holden Monaro (with the LS1) is listed at just under $46,000 (again, that's converted to U.S. dollars).
