I'm trying to install a centre console in a manual (6-speed. YES!) transmission 1969 GTO. According to the build sheet, it was there initially but disappeared while the car was in the hands of one of the previous owners. My questions are:

1) Are the brackets screwed onto the frame THROUGH the carpet, or is the carpet cut away under the brackets so that the brackets make direct contact with the sheet metal?

2) The 1969 Pontiac Shop manual shows a console door lid switch and what I assume to be a light bulb, connected via an electrical harness that runs to the fuse box. My console shows no cut-out or screw holes for either the switch or light bulb. Is the light only an option? Where and how do the switch and light bulb attach in the console?

The brackets for the console (manual & auto) were tack welded directly to the floor.

Scot, Yes the wiring diagram shows a light
and switch on lid, but it NEVER made the '69 model...Several of my own '69 and other friends' have shown the same...
