I paid $585 for my 75mm s400 with a 1.32 exhaust housing. The install and tuning is alot of work, but I think its worth it.

here is the link...most of the guys get them here.

http://majesticturbodallas.com/specials1.html

Tom V. thanks for the info. if i cant live without boost in 1st then i will look at that. im hoping that i can get it to spool up a bit more in 1st with a little practice. on the positive side it does make launching it a bit easier. also, im just afraid that with 3.55's i ll never use 6th gear.

lemans411....kind of. but they would dump in a different place because i am using stock logs and have to clear steering linkages. also, i have seen those flanges on ebay. they do look like they would make things alot easier. i have seen them for 4 inch and 3.5 inch.

here is a shot of the style. i actually used the dark manifold just above the one pictured.

here is a shot of the manifold on the passenger side. as you can see it just catches the frame with about a 1/4 to go. i found that once i started grinding that i need to grind a little bit more so i could clear the flanges and be able to get the flanges on and off with out pulling the manifold..

here is a shot looking up and the outlet of the drivers side. directly above that in the pic is the steering column and rag joint. that line used to be the return fuel line for the fuel injection....it has since then been re routed for obvious reasons. the drivers side fit fine. the only grinding i had to do was to make room for the flanges. i still have some more grinding to do. my plan is to pull the motor shortly...grind some more to make it even easier to get them in and out and also make sure that nothing will rub as the motor torques. then i will weld in some metal to strengthen it up.

extra load on the engine/turbo will allow making boost in fist gear at lower rpm.

People with lots of gears in the trans rarely put enough load on the turbo to make it work properly unless the vehicle is a semi.

i just had an idea....I wonder what what kind of boost i could get if i simply took off from 2nd gear....

Marty Palbykin ran 194 mph going from 1st gear to high gear (trans skipped second). So his engine basically was in high gear about 1300 ft. Try it, you might be surprised Vic.

Ahhhhhhh yes I didn't even consider the clearance for the steering. Very neat idea though. Do those stainless flexy joints seem to have enough 'give' for engine torque? Mounting the turbo to the frame rail definately would put alot less stress on the exhaust manifolds and pipework associated. I see many aftermarket stainless manifolds on japanese cars cracking and breaking due to the weight of the turbo solely on them.

Very cool, nice to see that the stock headers can be used.

I like the flex section to absorb the engine torque since the turbo is mounted on the frame.

If you ever want to get the car to leave with boost since you're a manual get a 2 step, it will build boost so you can cut some crazy 60ft's.

Works great with an auto trans.

Won't work in this case, Vic's car has a 6-speed stick trans.

I just checked out majestic turbo. He only lists a 1.34 A/R for the turbine, but I think you could get much more low end boost if you exchanged your ex housing for something around 1.0 or 0.9. If you're not approaching 1000 hp, then your losing a lot of low boost.

Its like choosing a 7000rpm cam, but shifting at 5500rpm. You never see the cam's real potential, and the high rpm cam is costing you low end torque. I think an exhaust housing change is a pretty simple event, if you can find the right one.

i agree. but i plan to run a 461-468 down the road. that should help a bit.

While Majestic has great deals on BW turbo's I got my S474 T6 1.10 twin scroll housing from MikeTurbo for really cheap.

I'm only familiar with 2 step rev limiters done in the computer chip so you'll have to look into how to pull it off without an ECU etc. But the manual guys that got the rev limiter were really excited when they started leaving at 4500rpm and 8psi on their manual DSM's.

BTW, transbrakes really get the turbo spooling out of the hole.

15% more engine means you can come onto boost 15% earlier! That could be 500rpm.

Will going to a full 5 inch exhaust allow for quicker spooling? If so will remote mounting of the oil filter give you enough room to do this?

im sure the 5 inch down pipe is to reduce back pressure making it easier to spool... as for a 5 inch to fit even if you go with a remote filter... i would have to say that it would still be a real tight fit.

With your skills you should be able to notch the frame back there. If you do think about doing that I would try a test pipe first as the gains may not be even noticeable.
