Great car ,do not even consider painting it, survivor cars are special and need to be preserved. Can you post the GM of Canada documentation and PHS?

Thanks for posting
Great color combo and a real runner with the 4.33 posi rear axle. Note that yes, 442 GTO Judges were delivered new in Canada in 1970. However, your car is more special as it is one of 288 GTO Judges built in the Oshawa Ontario assembly plant in 1970. The only year GTO Judges were built in Oshawa. Your car should have WTI ,M40 D80 and D55 stamped into your firewall body tag the only assembly plant to do this. These RPO codes are there as they represent options that called for Fisher body modifications to the body shell to accommodate these options.

Small world isn't it? I bought my 1970 GTO from your uncle back in 1995. Originally cardinal red w/ white vinyl roof. Don't worry about the slow resto, I got mine road worthy and did the major body body work. It was looking good had fun driving it. Now I have started a full frame off restoration (7 years ago) and am still slowly working on it. Somehow growing up and life takes over, and the restoration gets put on hold a time or two.

Talk about a small world That's how I met your uncle Allen I was going to buy that red GTO for parts for my convert and then he told me about his extra sheet metal he had that was new in the boxes so I bought that instead then years later I bought his green 4speed Judge he had quite the collection of cars and parts and a real nice guy say hi to him for me

Great story. I would think you could make that paint look presentable. Invest in a good buffer and quality products and it will come out nice. I’ve done it several times, pm me if you want to hear my experience

Sounds like your uncle had a few Judges and a lot of NOS parts. Those front mud flaps/flares really saved the fenders and rockers, wonder why they were not on the rear too? Looks like they are aluminum or stainless, did your uncle install them? Very cool car, good luck with the project and look forward to more pics!

The paint looks a lot worse in person than it does in pictures but it’ll have to stay that way for a while till I get enough $ to get it done properly. Both rockers were right full of mouse nest/ crap/ flax seeds! I have it up on my hoist now and am going to pull out the rear axle and paint the whole underneath with epoxy primer and paint so that it doesn’t deteriorate any more. I’ve never asked Allan about the stainless splash guards but I like them so I’ll clean them up and keep them on there. Great to hear from the guys who saw his collection, it was pretty impressive at it’s peak. Will post more pics when I get underside painted. Engine should be done in the next month or so and I want to have it in by the end of June. Still need to do seat skins, carpet and headliner but that will have to wait for more spare cash as well. So my rear coils were in the car like you see in the picture. Can anyone tell me why they are not both installed the same way? I believe they were replaced once so maybe they weren’t installed properly? I’m not sure which end of the coils are actually the top and my shop manual doesn’t say anything about that. Any help would be appreciated.

I believe the spring on the passenger side is oriented correctly. The theory is that the wider spaced coils should be closest to the movable suspension piece to help reduce un-sprung weight. I doubt anyone would be able to tell the difference while riding but that is the theory.
To each his own but since this looks like a really original Judge I wouldn't try to preserve the underside with any sort of paints. If you are concerned about rust consider Rust Check that can be bought at Canadian Tire among other places. It sprays on really well and tends to creep into cracks and seams to prevent further rust. Depending on how far you will take your restoration you might want to document any factory markings and overspray on the car now as well so that they aren't lost. Nice Judge by the way. It's amazing how many rare cars are stored away in sheds and barns across the prairies! |

Here's a pic of the originals on my Judge when I rolled the frame out from under the body. Pretty sure they were even spaced coils on both ends. Put the tighter coils up in the pocket as Lintmann suggested.

Very Cool Tory Good luck with the car! Agreed; don't paint the car. Do as little restoration work as possible when cleaning it up. |

When I was working in Moosejaw Sask. circa 1992-96, there was another pepper green 1970 rusty Judge driving around town ... Also a green 1970 GTO 455. Keep up the good work !

Engine should be done in the next month or so but it will be needing a paint job. Which paint to you guys recommend? I've never actually painted an engine before...

I think there's not many companies making the Pontiac blue metallic rattle can so probably whatever you can get your hands on. Engine Dyno sheets look like a nice healthy motor. Pretty close to stock ratings. What did you do to the motor? I'm also a full resto and finally installed that driver door I got from you. The GM tag on the door shows it came from a Oshawa built GTO.
