Front brake lines and brackets
My car is original power drum and I will be converting to either Wilwood or Baer brakes. I am replacing the brake lines so first question is,
-since I have headers on the car, I thought it might make better sense to use the pre-bent lines for a R/A HO car since it may provide more clearance. Can anyone confirm? -The frame brackets that bolts to the frame and the flex lines hook to are different from drum to disc. The disc brackets look longer. Any reason I can't use the frame brackets I have? I had converted my drag car to discs ( 65 GTO, sold) and I don't remember having any issues with the brake hose length. Additionally, I had my brackets powdercoated when the frame was done, separately of course. ...and obviously if I retain the drum brake brackets I will want to use the pre-bent kit for power drum brakes. Yes I realize I will have to adjust at the m/c for the proportioning valve.

I don't remember changing the frame brackets when I converted to disc brakes on my 67. But, I am old and it has been at least 10 years since I did it.

Dangit..that is much cleaner. Is that a later year PV?
Are the front lines on yours for the RA/HO cars? Looks like it How do you like the hydro-assist? I am thinking of that too.

That is a prop valve from 78 Firebird.
Brake lines are orig drum brake lies. Didn't need to change the brake lines, have had silicone brake fluid in them since it came out sometime in the late 70's or early 80's. Having Hydroboost made all the 48 years of prayers when trying stop distant memories! Like having a monkey in the trunk with a chain and anchor! |

I converted my drum 65 to discs just to get it up running and stopping and never could figure out why the line runs from the PV or distribution block forward then around the engine mount and backwards to the back of the crossmember , and do the same thing on the passenger side. I think the RA line/67 line does not do that on passenger side. Run the lines with the motor out! I left it in but just copied factory lines and made them in multi sections with couplers to snake then through.

I saw that in the other thread. I just needed mine to run and stop to move on the trailer to get to my new shop and did not want any nasty residual old fluid to get into a new system. So I worked around the motor making sections to hook together. Also just used a dual reservoir distribution block and will use a adjustable prop valve in the rear when it gets the final brake system. Planning on using the racing Nash 5 speed in mine.
Factory brackets worked fine for the flex hoses. I'd keep the line lock for rolling on hills on the street-unless you are as flat as we are here in Houston.
