Got a email that said I should have a intake ready to pickup friday(???) but im not going to drive 50 miles each way on out freeways on a friday.Maybe Monday!
Guys that order a intake should start to think about a thermostat housing! They take the tripower-2-4 intake style.63 and 64s are similar but the direction are diff from each on direction.65-66 are kind of similar going toward the center.Trpower.com might have pics of all 4.Bart might have posted them on this site also.Tom

Bought this thermostat housing last week. It came in two days. Chinese knock off butt I didn’t want to spend $600 on a factory one even though I probably tossed out a dozen of those

Thanks for the heads up. I just looked today at the cover I put on the engine I am building for the bathtub intake. It has that little dimple in the cover but is an 11 bolt water pump timing cover. What year did they do away with the dimple? I have no idea what year this cover is from.

Right around 1975 the dimples were eliminated.

I had a ‘74 cover with the dimple.

Thank you for the quick reply. I poked around on the Pontiac parts sites, Ames, Kauffman and Butler and NONE of the new 11 bolt covers they sell have the dimple provision. So it looks like old stock or nice used covers for tri=power or the 2x4's. I guess I just lucked out.

Thanks Tom. I did see that and they have the dimple of course. That would be a good option for some of the bathtub intake users getting the newer pattern intake as well.

On the Kaufman timing cover, I purchased the 8 bolt with dimple. There were some small issues.

It was not drilled for the location dowels, and that leaves some tiny adjustment that needs to be played with to center the crank seal properly prior to torquing. My machinist complained about this and I think he is right.

The inside of the water pump area is different from stock, which meant the divider plates wouldn't seat nicely without removing some material from the timing cover water bowl area and monkeying with the plates. Compared to stock, it was a hassle.

One, and maybe and another of the lower studs leaked coolant. For sure one pierced the lower radiator hose inlet casting. I don't know if stock is the same, but I didn't use thread sealant and it leaked and pissed me off.

No big deal on the timing covers guys. There are still plenty of original GM covers to be had. From local swap meets to Norwalk to EBay they’re out there.
