71 trans am HO Rally II KR wheels
Was wondering if anyone out there might have a set of KR Rally II wheels 15X7 for my 71 HO Trans AM that they might be willing to part with? Currently have Honeycombs on it and would like to go back to original wheels. I know they are tough to find but was told this forum would be the place to start my search. Thanks in advance for your help, this is a great site. Mike

Shouldnt these be JW code wheels?
Curious if I am wrong. Jim |

You may be correct. With another member posting October dated JW wheels my car may have came with them instead of KR wheels. I would be inclined to buy either type, KR or JW but appears JW may be the ones I need?
Thank you for your reply. Mike |

Whatever the going price is. This is my first GM car in a longtime. Have a garage full of ford mustangs. Not familiar with current prices for GM parts. My car was built on December 10, 1970. Don't know if that qualifies for a KR wheel or JW wheel as another member on this forum commented. Gave me some good history of the wheels and build times. Learning as I go. Let me know if you might have a set of these wheels? Appreciate your response.
Thanks Mike |

Are your HC's correctly dated for a 71?

I’ve see. October 70 dated JW’s. I have 12/30 KR’s on my 03A Trans Am. They came off an original 71 that was 02D. Both cars are Norwood cars

For a mid Dec of '70 Van Nuys built 71 originally equipped with 15x7 Rally II's, I'd expect either a set of 6/25 or 7/15 JW's or a set of 7/27 or 7/28 KNs. It's also very possible the original set on the cr would have had a mixture of wheels from above.
the only evidence ive ever ran across of a JW wheel dated later than the documented 7/15 JW's was a supposed Oct of '70 JW on eBay several years ago. Call me a skeptic, but I didnt believe the originality of that wheel then, & I don't today. Having recognized the restoration value of quite a few codes of Rally II wheels over 35 years ago, I've actively sought out, bought & sold, & pieced together nearly twenty sets of these "special" 15x7 Rally II's. Have also examined many many original cars, thus my perspective.

Hello FASTASSBIRD:
Are those JW wheels for sale by chance? Look to be in good shape. Let me know if you are interested in selling? Thanks for all the replies and education on these from all who have responded. Thanks again, Mike |

28 appears to be stamped very faint, could be a later stamp. Have seen such shenagigans before. Hard to say about the stamping of the 10. One thing for certain, this appears to be the wheel I saw pics of years ago.

Would be interesting to see the date coding stamped on the inside (the spine) of the Oct dated wheel.

So if one wanted to add trim rings to these wheels which would be mostly correct? Ive seen conflicting info.

Trim rings were an option on the trans am. Personally if you’re gonna “add” em I’d just use regular rally wheels can’t tell they are the $2500 dollar plus version once the trim rings are on Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I agree with you, I have a set of JW"s but I like the look of the trim rings. Question was what would be "correct" trim rings?
Sorry if this wasnt clear. Jim |
