Default New Toy

Hi guys I've been looking for some time for a nostalgia racer and finally found one. 1962 Tempest convert in pretty good condition, am going to build a Gasser. thought it would be pretty cool to have a convertable gasser only concern I have is body flex and I think with a little frame reinforcement and a 12 point cage that
can be taken care of. already have a 488 in the works and a couple of T400s. Will be peddling original 4 cyl and trans axle . would be willing to build 4 cyl if anyone is interested, mild or wild but don't have it in my bones to build stock.

Hey Len,

Is it at the house already? If I have time Monday I may be able to drop by for the dyno session with Dave.

I have known a few Brand X Convertibles (built with good roll cages in them) that were very fast with Turbos.
It will be a unique project for sure. Those cars lived on the street.

I figure it will take 2 years to finish this project , it took me 1 month to to mini tub the tempest, the rear sub frame had to be moved over at the front and rear of the of the wheel well and I also added a 2"x2" frame reinforcement under under the original frame to stiffen things up. The original wheel wells were moved in 2 1/2" and I was still able to achieve a factory appearance. I can easily fit a 275 60 15 and possibly an M&H 325 50 15, will keep posting as things progress.

That would be cool to see you racing with the likes of Rick Johnson, Joe Zajac, Larry Kauffman, and the other NSS type guys.

Keep at it Len. It's going to be cool.

I sold my 68 'bird convert because of cage requirements. It was too nice of a car to do that to.

I'd like to do a 61 and replace roof with bubble top from early Corvair. It would somewhat look like a small version of a 59 Catalina.

Bruce I have had thought s of turning this car into a hard top as that was my original intent , but this convert came along at a price i couldn't refuse so I'm going with it.

Well I've been plugging along, body work is all done and have painted a dark teal color . Installed 9 inch ford and have straight axle done . looks like front geometry is good with minimal bump steer. I pulled a 458 short block from under the bench (setting 13 years) and stuffed some mildly ported e heads on it and will use that as my mule motor to work the bugs out. currently setting on my dyno waiting for intake. will post results when I'm done. 458 has mild hyd roller with solid lifters, forgot specs but think its 252 260 .625 lift 112 on a 108. will put that in front of a T400 that I built about the same time.
