Default 71 80 amp set up

I’m working on a 71 with ac and a rear defrost and need some help with the 80 amp set up. Does anyone have picture of the bracket that bolts to the passenger head that holds the pulley?

If you need a disassembled pic (just the bare bracket), can take a pic.

Chuck - Maybe these pics will help. I will note that there was more than one bracket over the years. I can’t add definition beyond that, but I thought I scored a great deal on an 80amp idler setup on eBay, but the main bracket depth and dimension was completely wrong for my 1972 Formula. Best of luck. These things are finicky. BTW - This pulley is not the original style. The original has the closed front face and the bearing is nearly impossible to replace. I believe it was Pepi on this forum who devised a method and tooling to do so.

Bob thanks for posting your pictures. Johnta thanks for the links. So I id get idler pulley bracket for Barry and it looks like yours Bob. The spacing between the holes where it bolts to the head is 5 inches. This bracket does not work on a 71 ho head. It does not have the same bolt pattern on the pass head. I think the bracket I need may be specific to a 71? 9790765? If someone has a pic of one please post it.

Compared several idler pulley brackets, all of which are the '72-76 style. Center to center, the mtg holes measure 4 3/4". Examined both early & late style '71 HO heads in respect to their bolt holes on the front of the pass side front head (both have same position drilled holes).

The '71 style idler pulley mtg bracket needed will attach at the lower outside hole like a '72 & later version, but will span diagonally up to the hole below the freeze plug hole. An illustration in the '71 Dealer Technical Bulletins confirms this. Measuring center to center of the two mounting holes on the head, the bracket needed should measure 3 7/8". Began chasing Pontiac 80 amp pieces in the late '80's, all idler setups I pulled came off donor '72 & later Birds. 71's with 80 amp setups, next to nonexistent... can only remember one '71 HO car that I've looked at carefully @ a national show that was equipped w it's original 80 amp idler setup.

Guess you can file this under "better late than never".
This 80 amp bracket set up is from my '71 May built Van Nuys TA.
Hope these show what you need to see.

The different shapes of the holes for the heater hose would be a good thing to focus primary attention on when trying to locate the bracket from unknown sources.
That could be a quick reference point

Good luck Chuck

I noticed that earlier as well when I checked out the SD listing. Seems like a nice car for the money. The spare idler setup I mentioned above matches this ‘74 unit. It’s missing the pulley, but otherwise complete. Replacement pulleys are easy to purchase at any parts store. If anyone is needs a ‘74 setup, send me a pm and I’ll try to figure out a price.
