Default S/E steering wheel resto

I want to restore the gold on my original steering wheel, has anyone done this this has any advice for me? Like what paint to use for a decent match. When I am done with the spokes, I plan on sending them out to get leather wrapped, so the grip is not an issue.

You can't do it as originally, only mimic an effect that looks similar. You'll need to sand any existing colour off, then pick a yellow clear coat that matches your dash. Test on a piece of scrap aluminium first to see how thick, how many coats to match, or which shade.

As you probably know, there is a grain in the metal, so you should use very light coats. I used a rustoleum gold on my original wheel and it was too dark and too 'thick'. I have a NOS wheel installed now and there is a big difference in the two. The stuff canam man posted looks positive.

It's a great product. It's very thin and dries fast.

Here is the wheel in my car. It is NOS out of the box.

This is what came on the car. I painted it with Rustoleum gold. The 'graining' is not visible because the paint is too thick I suppose.2019-07-03_09-46-24 by Kerry Grubb, on Flickr
For comparison I overlayed the one I painted with the stock wheel. Colour is actually much closer that what I had thought it was.2018-04-17_04-53-02 by Kerry Grubb, on Flickr
This is the paint I used.
