Scratch Repair 64 Window Trim
I was out enjoying the sunshine today in my 64 Convertible GTO, our little dog who was riding on my wife's lap scratched the heck out of the passenger window trim.
Does anybody have any tricks of the trade to get the scratches out. (Or make them less noticeable) Is the trim polished aluminum in 64? Anodized? Thanks, Brad |

Is that the horizontal trim that runs along the top of the door?
If it is, it's stainless and those scratches can be buffed out with a metal polish like "Flitz" and a little elbow grease. |

No, it's the revel molding on the passenger door. (Sorry, the photo came through sideways.)

I realize this is not a convertible, but the piece I think you are referring to is "D" in the photo below:
If that is what you are referring to, it is stainless trim and I'd first try something like Flitz to buff it out as the scratches appear very light. If that doesn't work, some you would need to try more aggressive measures like very fine wet or dry sandpaper and then buffing. |

Stainless is MUCH tougher than that. Sorry for the bad news.

If a magnet sticks to it....it’s stainless...if not...some light polish and no sanding

Yes, that's the correct trim piece. I put a magnet to it and it does stick.
How difficult is it to remove the trim from the vehicle? Thanks for your help! |

x2 to do it on the car since you need to take the vent window out to remove that trim piece.

x3 do it on the car.
If you are worried about the paint, just put some masking tape over it. Flitz is safe on the paint. More aggressive polishes may not be. |
