Default Engine detail

In theme with the similar thread posted I too have a detailing question. My build dripped some pinkish red I guess gascacinch style product on my as cast Torker II intake. Anyone have any luck with aluminum spray paint touching up something like this? I don’t want the repair to look worse than the spill

I use the Dupli-color DE1615 Aluminum Engine paint and it works very well, easy to find, and easy to touch up. I do all my intakes that way and they look great for a long time.

I don't like the 'as-cast' or other 'colors' that try to replicate a newly cast aluminum part, they are too dull IMO. The Dupli-color looks very close to an Edelbrock intake out-of-box.

You can look at my build thread, the intake shots are with DE1615.

If you have a 'dirty' intake, the engine paint sticks really well, but it is a slightly different 'tone', like any paint, and you have to do the whole intake.

If you do choose to remove the intake, use an etching cleaner like Aluma Bright or similar, can be found at auto body supply stores.

If you don't want to remove it, you can try taping it off and spraying the best you can, all the visible surfaces, and clean the 'dirt' with acetone. Engine paint sticks to almost anything, so it's not like it's going to just flake right off. But I do still suggest you remove it for complete coverage.

The engine is totally clean being it’s new it just has red gas cacinch over the number 5 intake port. Builder said if I did anything to the engine then no warranty so taking the intake off is not an option. I will try that duplicolor you suggested. It has to be better than the red drips

Try to wipe it off with acetone first.

Brake Cleaner works well on aluminum. You want to spray it and hit it with air or dab it clean don't rub into it.

Paint thinner, 3M glue remover, gasoline are things I have used in the past. It CAN be cleaned...somehow!

It’s an hour and a half one way plus having to load it and unload it plus material and gaskets. Just want the red touched up. I’m lucky to have a warranty on a Performance build at all

Now don't give Gasgacinch a bad name - it's almost clear and removes with just rubbing your finger over it the same as rubber cement. The crap you are talking about is made by Permatex and is called Spray-A-Gasket Sealant. It is tinted red and totally sucks. I like all the other Permatex products but they really missed the boat on this one. I ended up with a can of the red disaster when the auto parts counter guy said they stopped carrying Gasgacinch and this stuff was better (may he go to hell for lying). Think their dye is the same stuff the banks use with the exploding packets for robberies.

Try brake clean and a toothbrush and soak up the residue with a cloth doing small areas at a time.

Butler did an engine for you? I thought someone else was building it for you?

i dont see butler mentioned anywhere in this thread...

try lacquer thinner to clean the spot, or brake cleaner as mentioned. pour some on a rag & wipe it on the spot, one of teh 2 should clean it up.

& unless you paint the whole intake, dont try any spot aluminum spray, it wont match the original aluminum.

May want to tape around the area before cleaning it up as not to spread it. Make a stain and try on another piece of aluminum if available and see what works?
