This thread led me to discover that I did not have ANY pictures of my LeMans saved anywhere! Would've been fun trying to describe the car to an insurance agent or police officer eh?

Anyway, here it is. Was originally white over aqua over aqua and I'm taking her back to that as I love the combination. Previous owner had it for 22 years and said she got tired of trying to keep a white top clean. She also had the trunk and rear floor pans professionally replaced and a cheap re-spray. No big rust issues anywhere, but a few paint bubbles starting to show up.

215 6-banger runs OK but the chassis dyno shows a whopping 59HP at the rear wheels.... whooooiiieeee !! Can't wait to get that 389 / TH350 combo rebuilt and installed!

I bought this car before I did a lot of research - and lucked out as it came from the factory with the 4-spoke wood wheel - which is in primo shape today.

I bought my Tempest Custom a little over two years ago. It started life Singapore Gold and through the years was changed to metallic green. The only original portions of the car are sheet metal. I’m envious of you guys with factory paint and interiors. Mine will be similar in appearance to tempest455’s car when it is finished - at least that's the plan for now. Hopefully I will be able to finish the car before the kids send me off to the retirement home. I’ve started a website – www.64tempest.com - to chronicle the car’s progress, or lack thereof. If you get a chance, take a look at it.

John TTD, are you building a "big six" for the Tempest? I have a '64 w/ 215 also (see post on this thread). Big resto project that is about to start...Anyway I am interested in building a healthy stovebolt for this thing. I know, we are all Pontiac lovers here, but I have another big Poncho and I would like to keep the Tempest stock (more, or less...I think a 6 with 230-250 HP would do the trick).

That was considered at first Giles, that's actually a fairly reasonable number to get from these engines with careful mods. In my shop we do a lot of custom injection and turbo work and I use this car to run myself and 3 kids 250 miles each way to our cabin quite often. I was going to inject and boost my 215, I bought up some forged low comp pistons, some rods etc but thought to myself "if I scatter this thing I'm screwed" I'd previously tried to find a few 215 engines so I'd have a pool to pick my parts from but had little luck getting what I was looking for.

I shifted gears and now it's getting a Chevy 4.3 liter v-6. These motors are found running in dumpsters around here. I'm doing a basic piston rod combo with a stock but prepped crank. I'm running marine exhaust manifolds that put a Mitsubishi turbo next to each valve cover, a custom fabbed intake that looks rather like an under hood tunnel ram with a dual throat ford throttle body sticking off the front. Each turbo feeds its own intercooler and each of those feed one side of the throttle body into a common plenum. I've also got a 700R4 trans. In the name of stealth it's going to be kept as quiet as possible, hell I'm even keeping the column shifter LOL. Of course I'm painting the engine Kimberly blue. It's sure to piss of some of the purists but I've had more then my share of big Pontiac v-8s. No way in hell I was going to put in a sbc or anything. I'm hoping that being radically different will score me some sympathy points LOL.

The chassis and brakes are unfreaking believable, I need some big power to match, software puts my combo at mid 500s without running tons of boost and I'll have overdrive and good mileage when my foot is out of it. This whole combo is costing me about half what my last 455 build did, will make similar power and is going to get triple the mileage. This is my 3rd 64 Tempest and with the 4 doors this one gets no attention from Johnny law at all, the only give away are the brakes and only some people notice those at first.

You don't even want to know how goofy option number 3 is

~John

i've had my Tempest for 9 1/2 years. when i went to look at it as a prospective buyer i figured a tempest looked like a lemans or gto, i had no idea the grille looked like it does. i have a pristine replacement grille to use when i get it back together. this one is a 'non-custom', the vin starts '233', which i guess is the cheapest of them all, although it had a v-8. a young kid at a SF bay area gto gathering years ago liked the 'adidas stripes' on the nose

Default Love the Tempests and Lemans!!

Here's my two Lemans. Dad raised me on these cars and I learned to love and appreciate them. I've owned two GTO's in the past 7 years, and the Lemans is just more of the same coolness! Check out my dog dishes on the 'vert! I get people thinking I must be an old man with the look of the car!!

Nice looking car.I'm restoring a 65 Tempest, slowly.I really like the look of the Tempest grill, but thats why i chose a tempest over a lemans or gto.I really like the plain old car look to them. Also the tail lights without the grill over them looks nice in my opinion.
A nice sleeper Tempest with dog dish hub caps = SWEET.

Love the wagon, I've been looking for a 64 wagon for a while.

I've had a 64 convertible, a 64 sedan, and a 64 4 door. I think I've only got a hardtop and wagon left until I've had them all LOL

I don't have anything against clones (was thinking about it myself, but the car is just too nice) but it is nice to see some LeMans/Tempests that haven't been "turned".
I have a 64 goat but agree. I have seen some nice clones but like the stock LeMans and Tempest also. My cousin had a 64 Lemans 326 4bb that would hold it's own. It did not have the power of the GTO but had all you needed. (just not all you wanted)It was a great car.

Thanks man! I REALLY like your car- AC to boot! I'm glad you started this thread- I think I actually get more excited when I see a Lemans around town than a GTO. I really don't even know why- maybe I feel like it is somehow more accessible...?

Default Heres mine!

Found this "european" lemans that was assembled in Holland north of stockholm. It has a tired 400 in it and factory 4sp/console. Everything is solid but I am sure there is bondo in places on the q-panels. When I get the dough Im callin the dude for help. I couldnt help picking up a dual 4 bbl setup from Jegs on my last visit home in NY.
The wires in this car have gotta go and I will move a modern fusebox to the under hood area.

Default As I bought it in 2005

Currently under restoration hope to have the body work done this winter. Had to build a garage first, so the car was stored for 1 year. Just finished installing driver side quarter panel. Love this site, wish I'd found it years ago.

this is the first time i've been in this forum for a while.

this's a nice gathering of the tempest / lemans. i'd throw a pic of my 65 in but it's a gto and not nearly complete yet. you may actually inspire me to start on it again tho.

Talking Room for one more '64?

Originally a triple-saddle bronze car (saddle bronze paint, saddle top, light saddle interior), this '64 Lemans convertible is equipped with both factory air conditioning and power windows. Gotta have those power windows when it's time to put the top down, A/C is a must when it's too hot out to put the top down.

A 1964 GTO 325HP 4-barrel 389 and matching 2-speed auto were found in a friend's '64 parts stash and transplanted in place of the tired original 250HP 2-barrel 326/2-speed combo.

Currently waiting its turn for some further attention, should be a very nice car someday.
