Congrats on the purchase Steve. We are all jealous of you right now! You are a lucky, lucky guy to own a couple of the rarest of the rare Formulas. (you obviously worked, sacrificed and earned it) How soon do we get to see pictures of the Black and White together?

Grandma's wheel isn't correct for 73 .
The 74 car posted has had the center wood grain painted black. iirc Can't recall seeing that combo - and can't remember what my 74 Bird had now. The other wheel you pictured alone with full wood grain "might" be right. In GTO's - 71 or 72 was last year for color keyed inner cushion. Then they went to the wood grain like that on all 3 spokes. Do all your home work before grabbing anything. This is the restored Blue 73 SD Formula - not saying this is the full correct wheel - just laying it out there .... |

The wheel on the Blue 73 looks like the same textured vinyl color-keyed wheel like found on 69-71 GTO and Bird .
just laying it out there as a reference only |

The color keyed column with contrasting Formula wheel grabbed my attention the first time i looked at car on eBay . But had to double check myself before mentioning it .
i wouldn't leave it that way - either of the 2 options you have would look good . Straining to remember - but really seems like my 74 Bird had the wood grain spokes. Here is the 73SD Silver Formula with Saddle and Formula wheel . |

Very nice car NJSteve. Congratulations! Car was ordered May 9th and picke up July 31st. Might want to try tracking down Mr. Enrico Stein to get more history on the car and why he ordered it that way.

The prior owner tried to find him for many years. I think he may have passed, but I will resume the search. A lot of the SDs sat around in order status until Pontiac decided to actually begin production.

Re: the hood.
Because it was a SD Formula, do you think it's possible the hood was prepped separate from the front end and added later during the build? Steve, what's the date code on the hood? |

I'm sure this steering wheel must be from my '74 GTO.
My '74 blue interiored Formula has the same style and I remember the old red one having a black wheel looking the same. |

Finally took the lady for a ride tonight. The gas tank was empty so I drove 5 miles to the gas station. Filled her up and just before the tank was full, gas started trickling out from the front of the tank. I drove her home quickly and put a floor jack under the rear end to raise the back up and stop the fuel leak. Turns out that one of the vapor return lines had popped out of the two inch rubber connector hose at the front of the tank. I replaced the rubber hose section and all is well. While I had the wheel off I took these shots
  I also found the source of the exhaust rumble - the tailpipe is about 1/64" from the lower edge of the bottom of the quarter. I tried using some gentle persuasion to rock the entire system toward the driver's side. It is now 1/8" away.

I have no idea what the bright sparkly thing is under the front of the white car. There is nothing in the other photos in that spot. Scary car spirits?

So is the consensus that the center area in the horn pad should be black on a Firebird and not woodgrained (like on the A-body)?
Is that '74 wheel up for grabs or is it just a photo from your archives? |
