Default 64 or 65 GTO needed for museum display in MI

I’am a guest curator for a museum in Michigan. We are looking for a 64 or 65 all stock and nice prefer tri power GTO but not a requirement for display for a period of one year with a loan agreement. It would be in a climate controlled setting. If someone would be interested please contact via PM. Thanks

Can I ask what museum in Michigan?

I restored the Tri-Power 1965 GTO induction system on the Henry Ford Museum vehicle in Dearborn Mi many years ago.

Always nice to see another GTO in a Museum.
If you could get a 64 GTO then people could see a 64 GTO Tri Power vehicle and the Henry Ford 65 GTO at Dearborn.

Yeah Tom, it is Gilmore Car Museum the Largest Car Museum in North America. It is for their muscle car display. They had a really nice 64 but the loan agreement was up so looking for another for the museum. If you have any ideas pm me.

Would the museum be paying for transportation to and from and insure it while in the museum? Would it be on "touchy-feely" display or definitely in "hands off" display?

They have people watching the cars continuesly, no one touches the cars except the owners and the guy that is responsible for putting them in their respected spots. Pending on where the car is located far as pick up. They prefer they be delivered. Your personal insurance on a particular car. They have million dollars cars on display and are policed by, like the 69 trans am convertible which is one of eight which Scott Tiemann restored. Gilmore is the largest car museum in North America. They also have a T-37 Pontiac in the Display and other iconic cars on display. They do have a website and a Facebook page. I pm you

I've been to HIckory Corners and the Red Barns of the Gilmore Museum twice back in the mid to late 90's. A very nice property and a worthy collection. I really liked the 1930's Shell gas station.

I'm surprised to learn that it is considered "the Largest Car Museum in North America" though. Have they added a lot of cars over the last 20 years?

I would think that the LeMay Collection with over 500 vehicles would be the largest.

So Gilmore now has over 500 vehicles on display? That would be about triple what they had on my last visit. There website doesn't elaborate on the number of vehicles in the collection.

Thank you to Butchman for bringing this to my attention.

I dropped the GTO off Friday to be on display until next April. This is the first time that the GTO has been out of my direct control, or my father's direct control, since September of 1964.

(I didn't mean to bump the Jensen T-37 from its spot front and center. Sorry Dan and Dennis!).

They also had an awesome AJ Foyt display, including his rookie car and each of the cars he won Indy in (in 1961, 1964, 1967 and 1977).

I had to leave the room because my hair was standing on end.

Ok Keith, it was really nice to be able to view your car up close. What are your initial thought on the display and Gilmore’s in general?

That was the plan to bump the T-37. I had no part of that I just figured that’s where they were going to put it

Very impressive. Excellent vehicles, most with a cool story.

And big! We were hustling to get through by 5 pm and there were still a couple buildings we didn't get to.

Always something different and new. I would suggest the Red Barn Spectacular, Hughes show and swap meet. I don’t know if you do the Facebook page but I’am sure in the near future they will mention your goat with pictures. Also, the upcoming events.

Keith, that is awesome! When I first saw this thread, I thought, "Keith's GTO would be the perfect choice" and I almost posted to suggest Butchman get in touch with you. But then I thought, nah, he'd be too nervous to have it parked away from home.

I'll add my congrats to you, the museum has one very special GTO on display. I hope they will put a nice sign board up to at least share some of its story with visitors.

Maybe next year when its time in the museum is up, you'll be offering 1/4 mile drives in it?
