Well my GTO is all stock. Back then, his Road Runner wasn't, so it was much faster. It was the fastest car at our school (my GTO was 3rd, narrowly beaten by a 55 Chevy with a 327). Now, he's restored the Road Runner, and the cars are pretty well matched. Sometimes he'll win, sometimes I will (we haven't raced in about 10 years, since I moved to Utah and he moved to Seattle).

The '66 GTO custom at the Chicago Auto Show had a few girls, with GTO sweaters, as models. Recently donated to the Pontiac-Oakland Museum were the original GTO letters used at that auto show, donated by the man in charge of Pontiac exhibition displays back then.

On the West Coast, Pontiac used a chestnut brown-colored '66 GTO ragtop with wire basket wheels and brown interior.

They also had a custom '66 Grand Prix called the Grand Corniche on the show circuit that was light blue color with a half-roof.

Here are a few more pictures (scanned in a PDF) of my GTO when it was new. That's my dad washing it in the pictures....

I still have the original license plates too.

Thanks, Jeff! I'm technologically challenged and don't know how to do that!

Click on the thumbnail in my above post. You can see the door handles appear to be painted red and the push buttons are chrome.

If memory serves me correctly, '66 post models are one of the rarer GTO's.

Apparently an illusion...the pic I posted is of the same car, probably the same day.

True. They are also lighter than hard tops. This was 389, 4-barrel, 4-speed, 3.89 gears, manual steering and brakes.

Interesting how few of these cars seem to have come with Rally wheels.

Cool Another good batch...

Stumbled upon these and knew they had to be added
They were all found together so I think it's safe to say it's all the same car.
