Default question on letter build code on engine

was wondering if they used the letter I for month of build on motors,thats what it looks like on build date of my motor.i thought I remember someone telling me they didn't.

I was used all years on cast parts, except for the year 1966, for early '67 model builds.

For somewhat early 71 Pontiac builds, I020 & I040 are legit block casting dated for Pontiac blocks & heads.
