Default Kickdown Boot

Is there supposed to be a kick-down boot on 1965 automatic equipped GTO's? I'm referring to the linkage at the carb.

Thanks

Yes, there is a rubber boot on the switch. When I restore the switches, I replace this boot. It's not exact, but fits well.

Bellows Boot.

Transmission kick down switch on 64/65 automatic cars.

It should have 3 bellows as shown on my Original and in the factory illustration and reproduction.

The boot on my 65 switch was just loose and brittle on the shaft.

I suppose I may look into a repro eventually.

Chris.

PS,
Gary your switch should have a date code stamped in the back side of the metal housing.

Our host has the boot at $23. The one I pictured has an extra bulge, but is $7.50.

Thank you all for your response and help. I hope I can reciprocate so please never hesitate to ask me for possible info I might have.
I'm going to try and locate an original boot, Hopefully I won't have to buy a complete 389 or an entire Lemans in the process. :---)

I can't imagine an original rubber boot still exists. Of the dozens I've seen, they all were so deteriorated that they crumble when attempting to move the switch plunger. If you want an original-appearing one, why not buy the Ames repro?

One word: "China". I've heard more negative stories and complaints about over seas ill fitting and sub par reproductions that I don't bother.

A friend replaced a 4-speed shifter boot on his 442 after the G.M. piece finally failed after 53 years with a repo. That lasted 6 months and the car rarely gets driven.

And this ^ ^ ^ was typed on a computer made in America

Sometimes you just got to bite the bullet and buy what is available that comes the closest.

My Asian built computer is great and works fine.

It's the reproduction Pontiac parts I have purchased I object to.

I don't mind spending the money but the frustration of low quality, poor fit and finish has stopped me from buying more. I'd rather have used stuff if possible.

Like Dick said, you'll probably never find a good used one and its been probably 20 years since I have seen an NOS one. The rubber on these was very thin, about like a rubber band, and saw a lot of use. That is why they did not last long.
