I shipped my trunk trim to be plated two day priority on Friday. It still hasn’t arrived ate the platers. It’s in a 73 inch tall box so post master says not to worry about it because it has to be man handled cause the machines can’t handle it but I’m still worried about where I will find replacements if they’ve lost it. I do have insurance

Not trying to get you worked up, but I would be concerned. This is how USPS manhandled one of my long parcels

Hope your trim doesn't suffer the same fate.

Priority mail rarely arrives in two days in my experience. Too soon to worry. Don’t you have a tracking number to track it online?

Best way to ship long moldings is taped to a long piece of wood or in a piece of PVC pipe.

I bought some stainless steel brake lines off of another member years ago. Shipped priority mail Box was probably 6x6x40”. After a week I filed a complaint, jumped through all the hoops, never got anywhere. Literally 2 months later it shows up. Luckily no damage to the box.

I have only ever had one problem with the post office and they paid the claim immediately. It just freaks me out cause I don’t know where I’d find a replacement. It’s packaged so well that unless they just bent the box in half it would be fine. I wrote do not bend three times on each side of the box. The tracking number just shows my item is on the way to its next destination. Very vague. I just hope I don’t have to scour the four corners of the earth to find replacements

To help prevent damage on a similar long part you should include a piece of lumber (plywood) or PVC pipe that is at least as long as the part being shipped.

Big mistake .... if you wrote "Do not bend three times" on the box ... they will certainly bend it twice

X2, I wrapped my trim in bubble wrap and put them inside PVC pipe and then put the PVC pipe in a box. Just because someone is having a bad day or just don't care is to big a risk for valuable car parts, trim is getting to hard to replace.

People like to complain about their service, but on the whole it's pretty good considering the volume of mail delivered every day.

I tend to agree with this line of thought.

Shipping trim inside a PVC Tube is a great way to get it there unbent. Wrap with bubble wrap to make it fit tight in the tube, then put in a box with more bubble wrap if you want to go completely crazy. We ship allot of delicate, rare, and heavy parts from here yearly. I use USPS, Fed-EX and occasionally UPS if the vendor insists. Everyone has their own stories, but I have had the better service and least problems with USPS and Fed-Ex. Nothing terrible with UPS other than very delayed delivery around 10% of the time, lost packages for extended periods around 2% of the time and really smashed, shredded, and mutilated packages from UPS at least 10% of the time. Fortunately, damage to the products inside the package have been rare.

I have always had the best luck with the Post Office. I called them today and talked to the postmaster again and she said because the box was 73 inches tall it could not go thru ANY of their machines and that everything that was done to it would have to be done by hand so it would probably take a while. She said if they havent received it by Friday to call back.

I shpped a set of heads once and insured them for 1k... after they lost them I had to battle for my 1k in insurance... they said they had to look into the value...
Why the hell did they ask me what I wanted to value them at if it's up to their discretion on said value....I finally got my money but damn...what a circus ...

Take the tracking number to your local post office. They have better tools available to them than is posted on the website.

Jon.

UPS delivered a box to my house and left it laying on the step at my back door. It was about 2 feet long and triangle shaped. They rang the door bell and left. When I went to the door I didn't see anybody so I stepped out to look and stepped right on top of the box. It wasn't damaged but my butt was when it hit the floor!
