I've got a blue column shift car I got back in the late 1980s. It came with a ton of original documentation, including the paperwork where the original owner traded in his car and had to wait months for delivery. I didn't buy the T/A from the original owner, but I had documentation showing the original owner's name and address and was able to track him down since he was also in NC.

When the original owner ordered his 1970 Trans Am, he was expecting it to be a floor shift. He tried to get the dealer to convert it over at dealer cost, but the dealer refused because he sat down with the salesman and ordered the car to his specifications. So it wasn't intended to be built as a column shift, it was a mistake on the order form.

I've seen two 1970 column shift T/As, and a couple of 1971 - 1973 column shift T/As as well. Most were very low option cars, and I've been told floor shift and console was standard on deluxe interior. My car is a/c, but has standard interior.

Hi Mike, whoever told you that was incorrect. Two of the three column shift '70 T/As I have in my "database" show deluxe interior on the invoice.
