Measured the rims today 15x7 4 inch back space didn’t really seem like bushings were bad. Any good way to check with wheel off?

In addition to other possible factors mentioned I’ll add that I run 15 x 7 Rally 2 on 68 convertible (Lemans) with 225 70-15 and have no rubbing. IIRC the wheels are stamped KS. A friend with same car (not convertible) with my wheel/tire had tire rub issues but he has disc brakes up front and I have drums. I think I read somewhere that the disc setup has a slightly wider width overall on front measurement (1/2 in?) which can contribute to tire rub. What brakes are you running?

Front or rear tires are rubbing?

I used to run 245/60 x 15 front and rear with 15 x 7 GP Rally IIs on my 68. Required a small 1/4 notch in the lower front fender for clearance. But they never rubbed otherwise.

I'm currently going back to stock with 225/70 x 14 on 14 x 6 steelies.

The car came new with 205R x 14 Goodyear radials

Fronts are rubbing only when backing up. Can’t notch anything just came from body shop fresh paint rf fender and mouldings just barely touches. Don’t want ride height any lower due to headers. Was thinking 225- 70-14 but don’t have any tires to check fit.

Disc on front. Believe the wheels are aftermarket also. The 4 inch backspacing isn’t helping..think I will order the 225-60-15 diamondbacks on Monday.

Exactly what wheels are you using?

Many aftermarket wheels have shallow backspace and make rubbing a big problem.

The 235 60 15 is 26.1 inches the 225 60 15 is 25.6. The width is 8.9 vrs 9.3 on the 225.

My 215/65’s are 26 . I wish they were taller to fill the well out a little more . I really wanted the 215/70s at 26.6 I believe but I chickened out because of the slightly wider tread . I think now that I could’ve gotten away with it .

Agree b-man the backspacing is the real issue along with the wider tread in front. I have ordered the 225-60-15

How did the 225’s work out ? I wish I would’ve seen this thread earlier . I ran 215/65/15 on my 68 , with fresh bushings etc . And they cleared fine . I wish I would’ve went with the slightly taller 215/70. They are close though and as mentioned , I think it’s more of a backspace issue .

I haven’t bought tires yet. I suspect the backspace is an issue, probably 4 inch. I think the 225with the 9.00 section width will provide the clearance over the 235 section width of 9.50. Need to refinish the wheels then order tires. Won’t know results till spring.
