Need help with attaining a 68 bird
I’ve been saving money, ideas change…, won’t be selling my Lemans. But I need something else to fix my boredom. The body work on the Lemans is in process, and the motor will be put on a hold. Until then, I have caught my eye on a neighboring 68 firebird near my area. It’s not “for sale” but it’s been sitting in the driveway of a home for many years. I’ve never spoken to the owner about the vehicle, but I am wanting to know what a decent 68 firebird would sell for? I’m 16 and looking for a decent deal. I was thinking around 8-10k. Not sure if it has a motor(hopefully a 327/350) but the paint Is flawless. The guy washes it when it starts to build up pollen and moss. It has chrome 5 spoke cragar style wheels. And that’s about all I know about it. I don’t want to intrude his privacy and walk onto his property and peek into his car. Should I try and talk to him about it? Or is it better left alone? Any help with pricing or what I should try would be greatly appreciated!!!

Ah, to be 16 again. There is not enough information to estimate value; I would knock on his door and tell him you noticed the car and that it looks great. Then ask him to tell you about the car, drivetrain, history etc. Most of us like talking about our cars. lol. Let us know how it turns out.

Everything mmarx said just be polite and honest with the seller and if he says no not now ask if he cares if you check back. Personally I wouldn’t walk up and start looking in it I know that would not make me very happy. It took me 9 years of stopping by and checking in every year to finally get the owner to sell me a 69 Judge. Good luck with getting it.

Not everything is for sale. Put yourself in his shoes,
someone knocks on your door, wanting you to sell your LeMans. Hi. Sell me your car. [puppydog eyes] You might slam the door in their face. A car visible from the street could mean you're the 14th person this year to try tempting him. No harm inquiring, be respectful and don't expect much. |
