What’s your fuel pressure doing during this event?

More info is needed.

Did this just start to happen on a motor that’s previously was fine, or is this a new motor thats making more power?

First with a timing light confirm that your total timing with no vacuum advance hooked up is bouncing around above 4000 rpm.

It’s really best to test at 5000 rpm even just for 2 to 3 seconds up there.

If that checks out solid then it’s time to check out the fuel system.

One problem in and of itself is that a strong 455 will be limited by the stock ID fuel line from the starting point of the in tank pickup right up to the pump.

What condition is all of that stock steel line and any rubber hose couplings in the system?

A few times I have seen where the pump at high flow rates was sucking air not fuel since air is far lighter than fuel.
The start of rotted lines and or dry rotted hose can make for this condition yet no signs of a fuel leak might be seen.

This carb was originally on a 75 400 engine. A friend suggested changing my metering rods. My engine is a Len Williams mild built 455. Great engine.

So nothing that anyone has posted about for you to check have you done?

Ok, I’ll play this game!

So Len build your motor, did he build the fuel supply system in your car to keep up with the HP produced by a 455 cid motor?
