Congratulations to the 75-year couple!
Was he RAF or Aussie forces?

Yes, Melbourne. It is a nice city. Melbourne and Geelong fans but primarily that's because 2 of their grand daughters are passionate fans. So they hope each week their teams will win.

RAAF. Dad was fortunate in that because of his age, he started flying fairly late in the war so he didn't see or get involved in much conflict. He trained and worked up to 2 engined bombers (Wellingtons) and would have stepped up to Lancasters however as the conflict was scaling down after D-day, that didn't happen. His first and only flight in a Lancaster was in fact on D-day as a training flight. So the powers that be just kept him at Coastal Command doing anti U-boat patrols mostly over the Bay of Biscay. He only describes it as lonely and boring although they did once find a lifeboat which they circled for hours while waiting for a rescue aircraft to land on the water and pick them up. He says he was told they were Yanks but that's all he knows (or remembers). Just says it was part of the job.

Thumbs up

Outstanding, Ian. Best to both of them, and lucky you to have such stalwart parents.

CONGRATULATIONS to them both!

By far, the best story on the news!

Jon.
