Default 72 Sport option 734

I don't see the 734 LeMans Sport option listed on the 72 order form. Page 1 ends at 732 (rear bumper guards) and it isn't on page 2 of the form. How did one order it when it's not on the form? Or was there another form it was on?

I don’t see it either.
I also looked thru the ‘72 Accessorizer and don’t see anything.

I’ll keep looking around.

My 72 has the 734 Sport option. The number appears in Eric White's book.

We know the 734 Sport option was available, it's how you ordered it since it wasn't listed on the 72 Lemans order form, nor the Accessorizer catalog. What's interesting on that description in Whites book is that you could order it on a 2 dr hardtop with either 701 (HD radiator), 721 (decor group), 731 (front bumper guards), 741 or 761 (neither of which show up on the order form or accessorizer either, so not sure what those options are). I don't get why having one of those first three options would have anything to do with the Sport option which was bucket seats plus the door panels with the Gto pattern, lower door panel carpet and fender or quarter panel emblems depending on if you had the chrome or endura front bumper. I may be missing something else. They don't have anything to do with each other. Odd.

Disregard my rambling on the above post! I'm stupid. I found this from an old thread:

"Here's what the 1972 Accessorizer (dated 1/13/72) says:
654 (sales code) Y90 (UPC) Trim, Sport Option- Front bucket Seats, Matching Door Trim Panels with Assist Straps. (Trims 701, 721, 731 or 761) LeMans Hdto Cpe......$164
(This listing leaves out the 741 Green trim option. Was the green interior trim dropped at mid-year?)"

SOOO, the 701,721,731,741 and 761 are the codes for the different colors available in bucket seat trim!!!

But still, that sales code is 654 and not 734 and it doesn't mention the Lemans Sport emblems you got as well, so that's still a mystery

Okay, so this is starting to make a little more sense. D37 only w/334 means the hardtop with the GTO option. We know the GTO option came standard with the bench seat. So if you wanted the GTO option AND bucket seats, you had to order the 654 option as well. If you had a LeMans hardtop and wanted bucket seats, you had to order the 734 Sports option. Same price too. Though with the Sport, they threw in the fender emblems on the chrome nose cars. T41 cars got no emblems at all.

They did make a lesser amount of D27 post GTO's and a ton of D27 LeMans, but were you able to get buckets in those? If so, wonder what option you chose for those?

Still haven't figured out where the 734 option was in the order or accessorizer forms.

When you say the T41 cars got no emblems at all are you also referring to the rocker molding emblems? Mine has the GT option, would that make a difference? My GT has the rocker engine emblem. Didn't the 72 455 HO cars with the T41 front end has a 455 emblem on the front fender?

Sorry, I should have made that more clear. If you ordered the 734 LeMans Sport option on a non T41 nose car, you got a LEMANS script and Sport script below it on the fender. Because of the air extractors with the T41 fenders, there was no place to put those emblems.

Heres a 72 455 HO Lemans Sport. I think this car belongs to "The Boss" here on PY.

Yes, there were small 455 emblems, but not the Lemans Sport like the last picture I just added

Did Chris have a build sheet on that car?
(or PHS)

Wonder what it shows as option?

Check out post #20. Which option were you looking for on it? If you are talking about the Sport or Bucket seat option, since all verts were LeMans Sport, they got buckets as standard equipment. That's what I have as well, just not at 455HO! I'm soooo jealous

Yeh I found his on my hard drive about same time.

What I thought would be there is like in your link, with the PHS for the more option pic.

Notice it has the WW5 option as 704
Thought the Sport Option if it was 734 would be shown on it?

Here is what I have for the 734 option:
VE5 - 734 - Protective Rubber Bumper Strips (71-73)
(VE5 is UPC, like the WW5 above)

Since this blue car has the endura bumper there would be no need for the bumper strips. (for the chrome bumper)

So maybe they did change the option sometime during the year?
(I show Sport Option as W70 UPC)

Wouldn't exactly say Pontiac made a ton of '72 D27 LeMans, that said, ALL '72 2 door Post LeMans (D27's) came with a bench seat & the standard door panels. Bucket seats were not avail in the D27 body style. The rather spartan appearing '72 standard LeMans door panels are near identical to '71 T-37 doorpanels. The only difference is the '72 versions had a diecast LeMans or GTO emblem installed up high centered on each door panel.

When a '72 LeMans Hardtop or Coupe was ordered with the GTO option, the standard trim level door panels had a diecast GTO emblem. When a '72 LeMans Hardtop was ordered with the GTO option and the Sport interior, the upper scale door panels pullstraps, the '71-72 style GTO door panel emblems were not used.

Over the years there have been owners that installed the swirled style GTO emblems on their '72 "Sport" style door panels. Many years ago, had a local that swiped one of the very nice condition original GTO door panel emblems from an original door panel from my '71 Judge project. That door panel was setting on a work table in my garage. That emblem ended up (with another one that he had come up years before) on the "Sport" door panels in his beater '72 T41 LeMans. Needless to say, I was not very happy about the stolen emblem, & it took over a year working big swappers to find a nice used pair of '71 GTO doorpanels to remove the pristine original swirled style GTO emblems. Little incidents like that are the big reason I don't have an open door policy here for locals throwing together who knows what, to come over & look at parts.

Well, mystery solved on the sport emblem. Hardtop non T-41 got it on the fender like that pictured car. Part number for it was 487742 (#19 on illustration)The quarter panel version is 71 only part number 8705590 (#10 on illustration) I can't really see a difference in them, maybe a curvature to the 72 fender version? Deck lid Sport was 71 only as well. Seems like pontiac wanted the buyer to just add the GTO sticker back there on their own since they weren't selling convertible GTO's in 72 and made it easier for the customer to do it without having that Lemans Sport call out back there.
