Default 71 HO AC Upper Dip Stick Tube

I know they are different than 72 HO and SDs. Will someone please verify that what I have here is a 71 HO tube. Thanks

FYI AMES Performance just received the reproductions of the HO AC Dip stick tube, Part number FN419H, I know an original is hard to find. I ordered a couple and they look very nice.

Thank you Keats, for the review. For the record, which
of the following versions are you referencing as being reproduced?

#483767 TUBE, Upper
-'71 455 HO w AC

or

#9795589 TUBE, Upper
-'72 455 HO w AC
-'73 455 SD w AC
-'74 455 SD w AC

Previously, the latter usage TUBE had been reproduced, but to my understanding that reproduction was no longer avail.

I've got the Ames '71 455 HO w/AC tube. Had been on backorder for something like a year until they found a new manufacturer. The Ames part has the same curve as what you have but the mounting tab is different. Where yours has one 90 deg turn mine has two with the hole after the second bend so the mounting hole is another 90 deg out from yours (like Judge's tab). From what I can find in my assembly manual the tube bolts to the rear A/C compressor mount and needs the second bend.

I do have a problem with the new tube as it has the wrong lower diameter. The upper tube is a correct 3/8" but the bottom section isn't reduced and is also 3/8" so it will not slide into the lower tube which, of course, is 3/8". I checked it against an old tube that fits and the lower end on the old tube is smaller. Not sure how I resolve this, need to call Ames.

THX for info, I just got one also and hadn't close looked yet, still in box. This may make the irony of being back ordered so long I forgot I ordered it even more ironical. Jury Rig may reign as King, yet.

I think the repro is horrible in looks, but will work well in function. An OK piece for Formula owners who have A/C and have purchased the reproduction Ram Air air cleaner.

Paint it or plate it, it's probably going to rust quickly.

Did you need to do any modificatio to get the tube to slide into the lower tube? Mine doesn't fit.

Can you do me a favor and measure the tube? Mine is 3/8 both at the top and bottom. The old tube's lower end was smaller, don't recall how small off the top of my head. Also agree that the finish isn't the greatest, and then there's the gold brazing.
