The reason I didn't think it would work is because HD lists the inside height at 8.75". That obviously would not provide enuff room for your 10" tall saw.

EGO 18" updates and info

It fits easy in the 22" Husky Box , with the Battery On the Saw (as pictured) - or Battery inside separately.
Bar-Chain-Scabbard Kit fits inside (14-16-18 sizes with scabbards installed)
The Kobalt and EGO Chargers with built-in cooling fans are too big to go in these boxes with saw.




This is probably the only EGO saw you will ever see with a Craftsman Bar. lol
The color scheme and design blend pretty well with the saw. I will mask off the Craftsman logo and dust a couple blend coats of semi-black over just the name to make it become invisible.
The reason for it is - it is a 14" .050 Kit , Stock EGO Kit for 14" is .043 - and i wanted to compare cutting between them.
Was going to use this 14 Kit on the 12" Craftsman Saw - but I'm going to return-or-sell that saw.



Anytime you pull the EGO trigger - the green power circle on the battery illuminates.
5 sections show amount of battery level while tool is in work.
Turning on the Headlight also illuminates the green power circle indicator,
and then there is a common power button in the middle of the power circle you can press to check it at anytime.



The Headlight is Wicked and the whole saw is Badazz
If i could only have 1 Saw - this would be The 1

It cuts a 6" log so fast i couldn't tell if there's a difference in the 14" .043/.050 chain kits.
Could probably cut a 6" log with a bicycle chain on the saw.
Counted 123 quick both times
Will need better test equipment next test, and make bigger logs maybe.

The Adapter for the 11,000 Saw Bar will fit any of the bars.
These are both 14" bars fwiw






The Post on the Bar Adapter gets pushed forward as the Cam Circle rotates/dictates the tension to tighten chain - as the Big Green Knob gets close to being fully tight.

So, that adapter should fit any bar with the A041 style mount. That means it'll fit any bar I have, or have any reason to buy.

Yes
For the sake of quick packing up when finished , or if rain/snow starts while working can throw it back in the box faster.
But i want to find a rubber plug (any shape) that will seal back off the hole while extended storing with bar/chain off.
Before i make a cut on the Toolbox.

Then, since you don't want the batt & charger, you sell me the batt & charger for $50

I'd be glad to help you with a good fix like that but probably more like $75+ , and the ride , on the Batt&Chgr
And that would be a smoking deal and get you in good shape, you definitely want both Weights/Ah of the batteries to get all the benefits of the EGO Saws.
Let me quiz ACME and see whether it's Gen2 or Gen3 Batt, and whether it's New/ReFurb'd , 1 yr or 3yr Warr towards the Battery.
Would probably want to keep it if its a Gen3 with 3yr warranty

You could return the Dewalt Hedger, Dewalt Saw, and WEN Saw
Have enough to start over and buy a Refurb EGO 24" Hedger with 2.5 Batt, and a ToolOnly 18" EGO Saw (new).
And have money left over.

Or about even money if you went with a New EGO Hedger vs. Refurb , and the 18" ToolOnly Saw (new)

I wanted a 14/16 version for lightest weight, to replace the Craftsman.
Little Crafty just didn't fit my hands like an EGO

We just did a speed test with what we have now. Was hoping to have the new 12" chains. Ain't seed hide ner hair uv 'em.

But, the sun came out & the weather was good, so we went ahead with the test.

As expected, the chain on the 12" Kobalt is real dull & therefore real slow. I do more cutting with it than anything else. So, it will go thru chains quicker.

We don't have a stopwatch, or accurate timer. TJ just used the second hand on our kitchen wall clock. So, the actually times are not real accurate. But, they're close enuff to draw some conclusions. I got a few surprises from this test.

The log was aprox 7". It was no surprise that the 80v was the quickest. It took 4 sec with it's original bar/chain & 5 sec with the WEN 16" bar/chain. Again, this was timed with the sec hand of a wall clock.

The next quickest time was a big surprise, to me. I knew the WEN would be the next quickest. But, I figured it would be somewhere about half way between the 80v & the Dewalt 20v with it's original 12" bar/chain. It went 7 sec with both it's original 16" bar/chain & the original 18" Kobalt bar/chain. I thought that was fantastic, for a saw that cost less than half what the 80v Kobalt cost.

The next quickest time was also a surprise. It was the 20v Dewalt, with the WEN 16" bar/chain @ 17 sec.

Next was the new 40v Kobalt with the WEN 16" bar/chain @ 23 sec.

Then came the 20v Dewalt with original bar/chain @ 37 sec, the 40v Kobalts with 12" Kobalt bar & dull chain @ about 40 sec each, & the 20v Dewalt with the Kobalt bar & dull chain @ 59 sec.

The original Dewalt chain is obviously dull, but not quite as dull as the Kobalt chain.

Will do some more tests when we get some more bars & chains.

As a result of this test, as of right now, I no longer want a 14" or 16" EGO saw. If the WEN holds up, it will take care of all my mid size cutting needs. However, I DO still want to eventually get a new CS1804 EGO package. It & the 80v Kobalt should take care of the biggest stuff I'll wanna fool with.

It's weird how slow the 40v Kobalts are though
they must geared for grunt torque.

And amazing how terrible the factory chain kit is on the Dewalt.

Inventory at one of my local Lowes shows that they have 8 of these saws in stock. IF that is the case, Lowes must have made a HUGE volume deal with EGO.

So, I have to assume that at some point in the near future, there should be a big sale on EGO saws, at Lowes.

A big sale to me would be $199 for the CS1401, $249 for the CS1604, & $299 for the CS1804.

But, with a sale like that, my military discount probably wouldn't apply. But, $299 would be a little cheaper, & probably cheaper than anybody else will sell, unless somebody will do a price match.

That would make my total cost just under $330. IF that happens & I have $330 to spend at that time, I might do it.

OR, I might just buy a WEN bare tool for just over $85 total cost. That would be the wise thing to do. Then buy an EGO, when(IF) I have more to spend. After making a few cuts with my WEN, I think that bare tool price is a smokin deal !

That WEN seems to be a leader in the 40v class, and definitely the low cost leader too.

40v 14" Kobalt is 199 and doesn't have a chain brake
40v 14" Ryobi is 199 and is said to be oil hungry, and a leaker
Greenworks are said to be same kind of oil issues as Ryobi
40v 14" SkiL is unavailable anywhere - looks like a copy of EGO, even on the battery tech too - but its a ghost

The only place the WEN is short is the 2 year tool/ 0 battery warranty
That probably plays a major role in the pricing point too

I had to beg the guys at HD to get 10 % off that $145 price. I was told by the guy who gave me the price match that I would still get the $25 discount, for it being the 1st purchase on my new HD credit card.

But, when I saw the charge, I had NOT been given the $25 discount, BECAUSE of the price match. They said I could have one or the other, but NOT both. The guy that got me the extra 10% was called a "negotiator", by someone under him, who put me on the phone with him.

Now, the best prices I can get are: (1) a price match @ HD, (2) a price match OR the 10% military discount at Lowes, or (3) the $145 price at Amazon, & a 5% credit, on a future purchase, because of my Amazon card.

The 40417 BT price looks to be $86.82 at most places. So, I suppose Lowes is my cheapest source for it. The 10% discount will at least pay the tax.

The cheap 16" bar/chain combo that was mentioned earlier in the thread will fit it. I have one on the way. And since I already have a batt & charger, this might be a cheap way to get another WEN. The Ebay seller has a 100% rating.

I just placed the 1st $.99 bid. What could it hurt ? I'd gladly give up to $30 total for it. Hey, I bid on a few items & got "sniped" on every one, at the last second. So, I've never placed another bid, til now. Since I don't really care whether I get this one or not, I'll probably be the only bidder & my bid won't meet the seller's reserve price. If he's like most sellers, he's trying to sell for more than the item is worth. Many times, you can buy retail cheaper.

The only other saw i have seen sold in that fashion, was also missing the front drive sprocket.
You shouldn't have much - or maybe none - competition.
Place a ~my maximum fair price~ bid in the last 10 seconds for a back-up plan.
If someone outbids or snipes you then - they can have it with no guilt.

I ordered my $14 secret squirrel 16" Oregon bar & chain kits from Walmart.
One came Friday, and one came Saturday.
The one on Friday could have put about 25-30 more kits in the box.
The one on Saturday could have held about 50 more kits in the box.

At $219, its knocking on the EGO door's price and might as well get the EGO.
But if someone hated the EGO name, or the EGO colors, the SKiL might be a great alternative to a comparable saw.

Nothing wrong with an initial low bid to place a marker, and once an item has a bid it can lock the auction {usually removes best offer and buy-it-now options}
The thing about being the lone bidder on an item, sellers will often use a shill bid account and run your initial bid up past its point to inspire you to bid higher.
So keep bid #1 low low

Best Offer options can be pretty cool sometimes.
Especially if its the end of the month, and some sellers/businesses are hungry for revenue to close out the month.

Got my new UpStart brand 12" chains, for the Kobalt bar. Cut down a small tree, limbed it, & cut into hand movable sections, with the 40v Kobalt & new chain, over at my old home place. TJ cut a few low limbs off a magnolia tree, with it.

When we got back home, we did some more timed cuts, using the Kobalt bar & the slightly used UpStart chain. Used the same 7" log we used for the previous timed cuts. Only difference is there was a knot/hump right where we cut. MAY have taken an extra sec. Don't know.

Anyhow, with the sharper chain, the Kobalt made the cut in 20 sec. With that same bar/chain, the 20v Dewalt made it in 17 sec. That little saw is a gem. I tried to put some force on it, to cut a bit quicker. That made it stall out. But, if I just let it cut at its own speed, it just keeps cutting the same speed all the way thru. Don't plan to cut many, if any at all, 7" trees, tho it can do that. But it's great for limbing, especially on stuff 4" & under.

The Kobalt has metal bucking spikes. I like those. I can't put lots of pressure on it, but I can hook the spikes & it helps to cut a bit quicker, & smoother. But, in order to make the timed event more fair, I just let it cut at its own speed. Doing it that way made the Dewalt just a tad quicker. The Kobalt is the older model which has a brush type motor. The Dewalt motor is brushless. I've read that the brushless motors make more power & last longer.

I suppose one of the main things this test shows is how much quicker you can cut with a sharp chain, than with a dull chain. Also shows that with a sharp chain, both of these saws are great for limbing & stuff that is 4" & under(which is MOST of the cutting we do). And tho not great for 7" stuff, they can get thru it, if you give 'em time.

Also got my cheap 16" Oregon bar/chain combo today. Made pics, but haven't used it yet. That reminds me that the little Dewalt cut the same time with the WEN 16" bar/chain as it did with the 12" Kobalt bar/ new UpStart chain. It's so small it looks like a toy. But, it's a serious little tool.
