For a mild street daily driver engine - will the balance of the engine be significantly upset if a few grams of metal is removed from the top end of all the rods for clearance with the piston? The machinist said the complete balancing job already done will be little affected since not everyone agrees on the proper method of combining reciprocating and rotating mass balance procedures anyway.
BTW, how is reciprocating and rotating balancing combined anyway? It seems that the reciprocating mass is an issue near TDC and BDC but not in the middle part of the piston travel. Rotating mass on the other hand is always centripitally pulling on the crank throw.
