I am going to take out my points type distributor here this week and put in and HEI. what wire to the coil is used to power the tach and do I just plug it into the tach feed on the HEI?

theres a place to plug the tach into right next to the power feed. its marked tach

Yeah Iknow that I am very very familiar with the GM HEI...I just dont know which wire on the factory coil that powers the tach now. Which wire do I plug into the HEI?

it should be a solid black wire thats the power wire,+side of the coil. at least thats whats on my 65gto

and i believe that the tach wire would be hooked to the neg side of the coil.

Another interesting detail on the '65 factory tach wiring. It connects to the negative post on the coil. You can't miss it. It has a cheap looking in-line plastic fuse holder (like what comes with car stereo installation kits). I thought the in-line fuse was some tacky addition for something, until I found out it was Factory Installed for the tach!

3 amp, a very short glass fuse. The old style fuse.
