I prefer to set my advance at the RPM that the distributor gives the max advance. You have to make marks on the stock balancer to do this. With a stock cam, 700 should be fine, but the initial needs to be set to yield the appropriate total advance. I like 12 initial and 12 in the distributor for a total of 36 (12 plus 2 times 12). This assumes adequate gas for the compression ratio you are running.

I don't know how to answer your question on setting the idle, as I don't know what your question is. The black choke cap needs to be set rich two marks. As to the mechanical settings, you will have to check carb rebuild sheets or the Pontiac manual. I don't recall any of those specs off hand.

mr. taylor, we will come back to this (12 initial and 12 in the distributor for a total of 36 (12 plus 2 times 12) thing after i fix my front carb float and this goofy intake leak, it seems this is neverending...... but at least the motor runs and its in the car. i changed the oil today, no metal, water or gas was in the oil, so im reallllly happy about that! it just seems like its one thing after another, i read your story on your website awhile back about all the trouble you had at first. it made me feel alittle better, lol.

thanks man,
