The oval machined pad where the numbers are usually stamped generally match up pretty well. I have one that the upper part is a little off maybe 1/16-1/8" from the cap there. The rest of the rod and cap look like they match up perfect. All the other rods in the set match up almost perfect. Seen this before?

Yeah, I've got 4 sets of spare cast rods and there are 1 or 2 like you described amongst them.
