I have a 60 over 400 with 4:10 gears and 9.5:1 comp. and a stall of 3800. What intake should be used with this set up? The cam states RPM range of 2500-6000. The carb is a Holley 750 vac sec and I'm not sure if a Victor or Perf. RPM or Torqer are what I need. Any ideas?

Saw your website, nice car.
With your pocket-ported #13 heads and the 230degree/480 lift Lunati cam I would say that your current Performer intake/1" spacer would be best suited for your car at this stage. Once you step up to some more heavily ported (240 cfm+) heads you might consider the RPM or Torker II intake to improve performance. Only running heads with at least 260 to 280 cfm or better and a real 'race-only 'type cam would I want to consider a Victor intake. A friend runs a set of mildly ported 6X heads on a 455 bracket car, it has a Performer intake matched to the heads with an 830 cfm carb (750 body, 850 baseplate). The heads flow less than 240 on the intake side. The car runs consistent high 11s and low 12s depending on the altitude, using 4.10 gears and 29.5" tall slicks. The Performer is a decent intake for sure.

IronInjun68, I'm curious. When you bought your car did it have a 73 400 engine in it with 4X heads? And did the hood have a repaired kink in it?

Ken, yes, the car did have that exact motor and the kink is still in the hood. I changed the engine trans and rear.

That motor sure got around LOL. It actually ran good at one time. I don't know how many different cars it was in but it was a few. I think it was once in a 61 Impala, it was in a 65 GTO, it was almost in a 63 Lemans and then it finaly ended up in your car. The guy who had it in the GTO wanted it replaced because he had a 64 Bonneville engine that was just rebuilt so he thought it would be better than the 73 motor even though I think the 73 was a better engine.

And I put it in a 71 Lemans Sport and then sold it.

I think that motor lived in Oregon at one time. It was probably in a few cars there too. It had to have been in at least one other car, the car it originaly came in.

Do you live in Az Ken? Did you ever own my car? Do you know the history of my car, I met a lady that said she owned it 10 years ago when I was stationed in Yuma. Your address is familar, do you ebay at all? I think I may have sold you something...

I didn't own your car. I know the guy you got the car from. I did own the hood once though LOL. That was the best $200.00 motor that ever lived, I never owned the motor but I did remove it from the 65 GTO. The guy who owned the 63 Lemans bought the motor and when he found out that it could not be hooked up to the rope drive without changing the crankshaft he sold it. That hood came from a place so far out in the stix that I would have a problem finding the place again, there is still a 1970 GTO convertable sitting out there.
