Arrow #77 389 heads and 389 block

Just wondering if anyone has a rebuildable set of #77 heads dated April 65 that they'd part with? I prefer good cores over rebuilt ones because I do my own heads and that way I'll know what I have when I'm finished. Bare castings without valves are okay too.

Also looking for a good core April 65 389 block. The engine code doesn't matter and it can be a bare casting as well.

You can PM or e-mail me at linton@telusplanet.net

Thanks

Default So why can't I find a 389 for my 65?

Ya I know it's pushing 45 years since they were a dime a dozen but you still see lots of 65 tri-power intakes for sale so what happened to the rest of the 65 engines? 66 seems more common for some reason....

At any given day you can go on ebay and see at least one or two 65 tri-power intakes and if you are patient you will eventualy get a correctly dated one too but rarely do you see any #77 heads let alone a 65 389. I would tend to think that if the intakes are out there then the heads and blocks should be too so why can't I find any? I guess some of the blocks would have got tossed due to thrown rods and such but there should still be lots of non GTO 389s that survived....right?

The way I see it there should still be lots 65 389 cores out there but I can't seem to find any. There are places that sell original Chevy blocks so I'd think that there must be places that sell Pontiac blocks too? Can anyone recommend where good places to look would be because I'm pretty much out of ideas.

Thanks

Some of the ads are a bit old, but it never hurts to send a PM or an email to check and see if they're still available. It can be hard to find blocks that will take a +.030 bore or even +.060.

You may not find an April date code so you might have to settle for a different date.

Good luck.

I found a '65 GTO 389 for my '65 for $150 pan to carb, and not only that a neighbor had it! But that was in..........1981. Time and attrition marches on......

I was still playing with VWs in 81!

I think the biggest problem for us Canucks is that the Lemans/Tempest line wasn't sold in Canada until 68 so the 65s are far more rare up here than down there.

gtopaul13 I sent you a PM.

What date are you looking for again? I've found a few but not the late '64 I need.

I've got a late 65 engine, no 77 heads, standard bore, needs rebuilt.
