1977 Can Am Stock Torque Converter?
I just started the restoration on my Can Am. The motor is out for a rebuild. The plan is forged pistons, ram air grind cam and a new set of ram air repro manifolds and 2.5 in dual exhaust. The turbo 400 is out to the shop for a refresh. My question is what is the stock converter stall to order a new one since I don't want to risk reusing the old one?

Going by memory here, so take it for whats that's worth. If I remember correctly the stock stall speed on a performance TH-400 in the late 70's was 1800rpm, regular passenger car TH-400's had 1600rpm. If you are upgrading the engine that much I would also upgrade the converter to somewere around 2200-2400 rpm.
But usually I just call the company you plan to purchase the converter from, not the sales outlet like JEGS or Summit, but say B&M ect... Tell them what you have for a drivetrain and how you plan on using the car. They will be able to suggest a stall speed better than I can.
