Default 421 heads/ 64 GTO heads - value?

Any thoughts on the value of a set of bare heads a friend of mine has? They are 9770716's. He said they were on 64 GTO's and 62/3 421 but I don't know for sure.

They look to have been port matched and the runners smoothed. Also have new 7/16 ARP 7/16 studs.

They are for sale here in So. Ohio, just haven't put a figure on them yet.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Jerry

People can't see inside the ports or under the valve covers so the average guy at the car show would only be looking for the 716 and maybe a date code. So you make him happy or the Judges happy because the dates are close and the heads look stock for the engine.

Deal is the Purest wants 64 GTO/421 heads that have not been modded. correct surface finish in the ports, correct press-in studs, and correct date codes. He will only pay $$$ for those items. But he is after parts that will not detract from the car when he SELLS IT.

For the average car show guy or judge, if it looks good on the outside, it is ok on the inside.

All depends on which person and game they are playing.

What you're saying about the heads makes a lot of sense, Tom...........

Your buddy is likely to have to get them Magnafluxed to sell them and to Mag them they need to be hot tanked if the had not had that done to them yet.

PS, in this day and age your buddy needs to learn how to use a computer so he can do this posting for himself, lol!

The OP is helping a friend sell a set of heads.

Agree with Tom S, right date codes to the right guy, $600.

That being said, Some of us were using computers before you were even in short pants.

Don't tell me you do not believe that many posters so called friends in a situation are indeed the poster themselves Tom, as that's what I was alluding to , not that it may be this fellow, but you get the picture, lol!

Hard to believe we got the Moon with punch cards and computor's who's abilities are topped these days by a 15 buck Watch , but we did none the less!

Curious, if they had little run time on them since a complete rebuild including new valves and springs would they be worth $800.

Always like to read your posts Steve.
That being said, have never used the "I have a friend" so can't say if you are right or not.
But if the heads are in nice shape, nothing wrong with posting info on a board for someone you know.

Steve25...

Ok, here is the real deal.......This friend of mine is currently in Ohio State University Hospital having stem cell infusion for Pre-Leukemia. He actually gave me these heads this summer, as well as many other parts from his collection as he is, of course, uncertain of his future and doesn't want to leave a situation for his spouse. If I sell the heads I'm going to give the money to him even though he doesn't need it, I just feel like it's the right thing to do.

So technically you're right the heads are actually mine,,,, hope this makes you feel a little better !!!

Thanks to all the others who actually gave me some useful information

Jerry

I was making no judgement on you , just stating to Tom what I have seen take place not only on this Pontiac board, but even guitar and guitar amp sites that I go to , and even moderate on one of them.
