With all you have tried I'm going to guess as others have stated, not going into the pilot bushing. Have you measured the trans input shaft diameter to make sure there is no issue there?? Usually the plastic alignment tools are a little more forgiving on that dimension and always slide right in. A burr or swell point on the trans though will get ya.....

Check your pilot bearing. Might be the wrong size.

Update. Yesterday I went back out to work on the trans install. I rechecked everything and realigned the clutch disc using OldGoatRacers input shaft. I but 2 alignment bolts in on the top and the trans went right in. Now to put the rest of the car back together. Thanks again Ron. I will send the shaft back today.

Having a proper input shaft to locate the clutch disc when the pressure plate is torqued makes all the difference in the world with the trans installation. Glad you had someone help you get the disc located properly with a input shaft. Great assist, OldGoatRacer!

It's not a big deal, but I've found it easier to put one bolt on top, and the other one on the bottom on the opposite side.

Ok now I have anther problem. I got the car running and when I release the clutch I get a chatter at the end of the pedal. I have the adjustment rod almost all the way to the end. Any ideas? The car is on jack stands.

Had a similar problem with my brother's car last summer and he had to get an adjustable fork pivot to bring the fork closer to the trans and get better rod adjustability.

It's been a while, but I believe I'm using this one. Works great for additional adjustment.

I turned it out more and the chatter stopped. I was able to take my foot off the clutch and let motor idle.
