Is 50k Too Much?
Made an offer on this car that was accepted. Lots of good pics and documented miles and owner history. Last owner only added like 38 miles over the last two years. Third owner did the resto on it. A lot nicer and cleaner than the last one I looked at and he was asking 47k. It does currently have a new Hurst linkage installed as the dealer removed the factory one and sent it out for refurbishment. Said it had some worn pins and bushings that made the shifting not very smooth, and in his words, “this car deserved better than that”. Color looks a different shade from the factory Martinique Bronze, but appears to have had a quality job done. Car has just under 90k original miles. According to the PHS, it originally had the red ww liners. Spent the weekend scouring over all the pics, and having trouble finding fault with anything.

If I were in the 50K arena I would have taken a flight. But that's just me. Beautiful car though...

That’s a very nice car. Color may be correct- since I had mine painted I’ve found the lighting can completely change the shade of gold

Considering I just got an estimate today to paint my judge - "between $55k-$60k."
I'd say you can't go wrong buying that car as simply painting it puts you over the purchase price.

Very nice car, but far from being concours. It's worth whatever you feel happy with. As posted, spending that kind of money I would have had to see it first.

Flying down is not off the table. Even thinking of spending that much without personally seeing it first is very stressful. But it just may have to happen that way, as too much going on at the moment and three days to fly there, look at it, and fly back isn’t fitting very well.

I'm actually kinda impressed by how wrong that alternator
bracket is. You don't see that kind of dedication nowadays. |

I have held title to over 35 Pontiacs over the years, so I have bought a lot of cars. I can say this, cars never look the same in person as they do in pictures. Rarely does a car look as good or better in person unless pictures are crappy. That said I have bought cars based on pictures. My advice is plan on finding things wrong and not as nice as pictures show. If you are ok with that and at the price then I think you know what to do.

The really poor LH door alignment tells me they either forgot to torque the hinge bolts or they just don't know how to align panels.
50k seems like a lot of $$ for this car. I was contemplating selling my '66 EFI GTO for 50k. |

Really nice looking car in the photos... was pleasantly surprised.
Only deal breaker for me is that the engine is painted the wrong color. You will be eaten alive at car shows by purists. ;-) |

$50k for a run of the mill (albeit very nice) 4bbl '66 GTO hardtop?
$50-$55k to paint a car? What kind of bizzarro world you are some of you people are living in?! |

Careful,
If you are wanting a pretty “look at me” paint job this might be a good choice. But there’s a lot of “mix and match“ going on under the hood which suggest other areas might be questionable. That alternator strap is Hilarious. It definitely needs seat covers all around. Good luck.

Frank, Not directed at you. I see many issues which IMO make that NOT a 50K car.
But will not say anything further. Cheers.

Please feel free to share your thoughts. Been away too long, and willing to learn. What I do know, is yes, the engine is wrong color. Shade of paint seems off, and the alt bracket installed the wrong way, with the belt appearing too long. What other items are erroding the price? All input and opinions welcome.
