Anyone used the Hotchkis Chassis Max Set up for convertibles
This kit includes the subframe connectors for a convertible and a modified convertible X brace that creates some extra room for exhaust. Looks pretty slick
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku curious if anyone has any first hand knowledge of this set up? I think there is better prices to be had than Summit but I included this for reference. |

1968 Firebird 400 Convertible - Hotchkis used
Hey, I used this system - AWESOME! X-brace is great. Was able to run RAMAIR Restoration's factory longbranch headers to 3" oval x-pipe, exhaust pipes etc and tucked it all nice and neat right up on top of the X-brace. I'm running a muncie Rockcrusher 4 speed tranny. You may not have as much clearance with an automatic transmission though, don't know. You will gain about 1 1/4" by using the Hotchkis X-brace vs the original. Only thing I didn't like too much is that the X-brace has HOTCHKIS stamp-cut into each side. I like the system, but didn't want to advertise it! Stiffened it up ALOT!! Also changed shocks to Bilstein (German made shocks - very pricey, but worth it). Handles like a dream now.

That great....I was hoping someone would respond to this post. I've got a couple of questions, how did that x-brace work with your emergency brake cable. Does the 1 1/4" drop compromise the cable routing? also the subframe connectors do you have to take apart the spring perch on the front of the leaf springs to install? Did you weld the front and the back?
I have just about got my 67 convertible back on the road with a warmed up 462, Forged pistons, Hydraulic roller, Eagle rods, MSD, 12 bolt and I'm running a Muncie also...a little shot of the squeeze....I am thinking this set up will almost be a must but they aren't giving them away so It's good to hear that they work well. All the rest of the suspension has been done, springs, sway bars, polygraphite suspension and body bushings this should compliment those parts......... I don't suppose you have any photo's? |
