Excessive pressure blew off fuel line
I ran braided lines back from the new OER fuel tank to the carb (1968 Firebird). During the early fall I noticed that I was leaking gas at the rear by the fuel tank. Turns out that the hard tubing to AN fitting had been forced off by the expanding pressure in the fuel tank from sitting in the sun. Once I opened the gas tank fill cover the pressure was released and the leak stopped. This is a single line system with no return. Is this normal or do I need to look into a better fitting to the stock tank line? By the way 114 octane mixed with 93 octane burns the skin quickly.

Did you use tube sleeves?

I used the AN fitting designed to adapt to the hard line on the gas tank.

Get a better fitting
Factory clamps didn't leak, this piece shouldn't either.

Not factory clamps. Perhaps I will remove the tubing to AN fitting piece and just go with a simple hose clamp.

When I used 1/2" aluminum lines the fittings consisted of 2 separate parts, 1 an female fitting that fit on the line, then a tube sleeve and then the 37# flare. The sleeve puts the pressure on the flare

you need either a vent line (on old gas tanks) or a vented cap (for new tanks w/o venting)...
I blew my sending unit gasket a few years ago by parking in the garage in summer with full tank.....gas expanded ,blew the gasket....bought a vented cap (I have a new replacement tank) , no problem since

I believe that the original cap is vented. See an original cap in post #5 in the thread below. These are extremely hard to find. Just make sure you have a vented cap if your tank is not vented.

guys, the vented gas cap lets air IN, not OUT. that has no factor in this situation.
