Question 65-66 Tach Cup Housing

A lot of you guys will know I had two batches of these cups made here in Australia.

Ron (Rapdron) made mention of them today and that's strange as I have been thinking about getting another lot made.

My BIGGEST hurdle by far is getting someone competent to do the machining. I have a great old friend, 81 years young who did the machining for me on both batches I had made. After the second lot, he told me "no more". His health was very poor and he just didn't wnt to take on any more jobs.

However about 3-4 weeks back he surprised me by asking if I ever wanted to do any more and if so he would do them for me. His health is stable but it's not hot here right now. My big mistake last time was geting him to do the maching and it was stinking hot in his shed. He got the hump over it. Now is the time to get some done,

I have already called the foundry and they will agree to doing them for me. Their minimum batch is 30 pieces. Not many but below that it is apparently not economical for them.

I have yet to talk to the platers but they are not a problem. There are lots of quality platers out there.

SO, I would like to know if there is any interest in ordering one or more. Last time they were around the $200.00 mark and I don't think they would be much more than that even after a few years have now passed

Let me know

Ian

Let's get together and combine shipping on this at least E. Coast & W. Coast. It would save a lot if we got it in 2 Pkgs and then split up over here if guys are amenable. I'd volunteer to send out all the Pkgs. on this end.

Default UPDATE.

I have slowly been working towards getting these done again but have hit a wall on the foundry. These guys have several times told me they will run a batch for me but they have been too busy to get it happening.

They have always looked for small run jobs for when they are quiet but I just can't seem to get to the top of the pile. And paying full wedge is not really in the equation.

Not sure just when this might come about and I really don't want it to go on much longer as my 81 year old mate might lose his enthusiasm if it looks like getting hot in his shed.

Hang in fellas. I'm pushing them.

Ian

Ian, are you still pursuing the reproduction cups? I've heard good things about the quality. If you are, I would be up for 2 or 3.

Thumbs up Thanks for bringing this back to the top

I was shortly going to revive this myself but Rich G has done it for me...

As detailed at the start of this thread I had thought my race was finished on these due to my old mate not wanting to do the machining on them. Then he surprised me earlier this year by asking if I wanted some more doing.

The simple facts are he is fairly incapacitated and not well but he is also frustrated in that he wants to do things but his body is failing him. The heat knocks him around a lot but when it was autumn, he felt better and offered to run a batch through.

So, I asked you guys, got some positive replies and contacted the brass foundry who I used for the first two lots. They agreed to run them but all of a sudden they won a big job and mine went out on the back burner.

Now to bring you all up to date, I do have the castings, I've paid for them all but my old mate John is struggling a bit lately (again). His wife is not at all well and I just haven't wanted to push him on these. However only last Friday I saw them and he has started to set up his lathe ready to turn them out. I'm REALLY hopeful that assuming it doesn't get too hot over the next week and that Rose (his wife) stays much the same, I think its going to happen.

Sadly, this is leading right up to Christmas, every plater will be closing down for holidays about the 20th and take about 4 weeks off. Which leaves me - and you guys - hanging till maybe February.

All I'm asking is for you to stay patient and it will happen.

I have 25 of these in the pipe-line!!!!

Ian

BTW, can you guys imagine that everyone over here gets four weeks annual paid leave. half the country comes to a crashing halt every Christmas

Good news about the cups but sad to hear about your mate. Hope he and his family can pull through for a several more good years!!

I'll take 3 for sure, maybe more if you have extra.

My name is still in for one.

I'm sorry to hear of this man's struggles. It must be frustrating for him wanting to do this but not being able. Wish him a "get well soon" from Canada.
