All the Pontiac V8's from 326-455 were the same physical size - is what gtospieg is referencing.
They didn't do small/big like most other manufacturers.

A 326 looks just like a 455 in terms of exterior size.

The freshly painted engine will get point deductions in a survivor class.
The previous pictures of before - would have scored the highest possible points regarding the patina on the engine paint.
It was incredibly far above average for a 1966 with 80k miles.

If you switch wheels and want to sell what's on it, please contact me by private message with details. I might have a use for them.

Same wheels on my low mile survivor '67. Wheels have been on the car since 1969. I had the lips polished it to make it pop.

Always been my favorite vintage aftermarket wheel but it needs the bright edge for me. Notice that I have the modern version of the same on my car.

Personally I’d leave the original finish as is.

Especially if they’re magnesium. Just use some Gibbs Protectant oil on them and enjoy that nice patina.

They’re only original once.

Not everything needs to be polished up or otherwise restored.

Agree with b-man.

The Original factory finish with decades of that aged patina is the coolest.
This cannot be duplicated.

Here is my set of Unrestored Survivor Americans with great factory paint and Original caps / screws.

The black ink stamp on the back seems to show a Dec 20 1968 date.

To clarify, I would not alter those wheels, I just prefer the ones with the contrasting edge at least on that particular color combo. They kind of disappear in grey.

The lips on mine were stained. Looked like something pissed on one of them and it etched into the finish.

Yes.. these are the hubcaps I have .. I notice your rims
Are not silver.. can you provide me a link or any website so I can purchase the correct wheels? I only have the original spare and tire in the trunk . I still might keep the vintage rims on it for a while but want the correct wheels if I decide to sell it .. thank you

When you say hub caps do you mean what GM called full wheel discs or the PMD poverty caps?
I have a set of '66 wheel discs I'll let go of if you have any interest or problem finding a set. Not nearly perfect but decent for a driver.
Personally, I think that car would look awesome with Rally Ones.

There were 4 styles of "hubcaps" for 1966 GTO
If yours are exactly like the ones on the Gold 67 GTO - those are called Poverty Caps or Dog Dishes.
They were no charge

If your PHS has a wheel cover option , it will be a full coverage hubcap
The poverty caps are smaller.

Deluxe is probably what Greg has.
I call those the Tempest hubcap because so many Tempests had them.

Custom is hard to find , and they look a little odd.

Wire Spoke had a 2 bar spinner and look out of place on most GTO's.

The original rims with any "hubcap" - came in colors.
It depended on the body color.
Some exterior colors called for Black Rims - and some called for color keyed rims.

60sstuff can probably tell us which color rim your Barrier Blue should have.
I don't remember off top of my head.
Your BHC card from PHS will have a wheel color code printed with the exterior color code.
For example - P P A

The original 14x6 plain rim on GTO had A6 stamped near the Valve Stem
Inspect your spare for all stampings around the valve stem.
Maybe take a close up picture and post it for an authenticity check.

If it is correct
You will want exact duplicates (originals)

New aftermarket replacement rims probably won't provide the right index ridge for poverty caps to mount properly - and stay mounted.

BVZ,
Geez, put me on the spot. All good my friend .

First off on any muscle car we need the Data plate / Trim tag / Cowl tag so we can gather important information on said car such as factory colors.
We need a clear photo of the Data plate on this ‘66 GTO.
Plus a PHS is a must these days.

Below is some helpful information on the 3 Optional Wheel Disc, Rally I and Standard hub cap
All the Wheel Disc cars came with Black painted rims.
There were three wheel colors shown below (Fontaine Blue, Marina Turquoise, Martinique Bronze) along with Black that would only come with the Standard hub cap.
I’m not sure if a Barrier Blue car with Standard caps would have Fontain Blue painted wheels??

If this car still has its factory colors the Data plate should show P1 (P=Barrier Blue, 1=Ivory convertible top). A possible third character may show wheel color.

PS, If you were to change to the Rally I wheels you would need to paint all 4 brake drums Red for the correct look.

Thanks for helping out with that Chris.
Believe I goofed on the 3 digit color codes on a BHC , that might have been in 65 only.

Looked back at the first pictures posted by Tedd , trunk pic shows what might be the original spare with redline tire and black face plain rim.

Still need to see the requested pictures of wheel to verify.
And the trim tag , and the PHS , to verify all the parameters

The bottom right wheel disc is the one that I have a set of. I also have 6 or 7 nice poverty caps too for what it's worth.
