Unusual proposal for car purchase ?
Found a car I'm interested in. Seller will be out of the country for an extended time. He has contracted w a holding / shipping company to handle the sale and shipping. Shipping is on the seller and also return shipping if sale is not followed thru after 3 day inspection period. Payment goes to holding / shipping company initially and only goes to seller when car is accepted and sale is complete. Supposedly zero risk to buyer. Anyone run across a situation like this?

Sounds fishy to me. Use the forum here to see if anyone is close that can verify the cars existence . Trust only after when it comes to blindly putting $ somewhere. What's the name of the holding company, can you verify they are not a scammer to get you to drop your money there and then disappear.

It's a common scam. The "holding company" will disappear with your money the moment they get ahold of it.
Propose to them that they can deliver the car to you for your 3-day inspection before you send any money. Or tell them that your local bank offers the same escrow service to hold the funds. See what their response is. :-) |

Just tell them you will just happen to be in the area where the car is and you would like to inspect it. I bet you will get silence.

I asked the "seller" why anyone would "eat" $2-3k on a car sale that doesn't happen. No reply yet.

Did you find it on Craig's List? Lots of scammers there. If you can't touch it or have someone you trust do it, walk!

Always have someone do a inspection for you if you can't get there.
If they can't call you on the phone and speak where you can understand them, scam. Just when you think you have heard it all, these scammers come up with something else. Stay safe out there.
