I have a pair of 4 posts and never used one to pull a engine. If I was to I would have built a I beam on the ceiling with a roller skate mounted chain fall above to allow it .Tom

I was thinking he wants to use the 4 post for the lift. I was thinking he could have an I beam from one ramp to another and adjust the height with blocks of wood. Not really a preferred method but would work, The PITA would be the movement of the car if you needed to move the engine to one side or the other. A cherry picker would be much easier.

I will look at mine tomorrow if I think of it.If I put a beam on my lift ramps I dont think it would get the engine high enough to pull the car away from the engine with the front end on?Tom

Cherry pickers are way to cheap to be jerry rigging up the lift to pull an engine. My 4-post lift wouldn't go high enough even if I were to use it.

You would have to put the I beam on blocks from the start to lift it that high.

As most have said, just get a cherry picker. If you don't want to purchase one most rental companies have them.
