Default 1975 Pontiac Grand Am

I am looking to replace a poor quality aftermarket radio with the original AM/FM radio. I do not care if it has 8 track or not. I just want a working radio that originally came with the car. I believe that it had two sections. Please correct me if I am wrong. As this site gets the most exposure I hope someone can respond. Thanks, CW

The second component is called a convector. It looks like a heat sink or audio amplifier with fins on it.

I have a few good AM/FM radios that don't require the convector for it to work. PM me if you would like to buy one , I have right now 3 good working AM/FM's for sale. & 1 AM/FM 8 Track that is a later modle that also doesn't require the convector to work correctly.

Only the 8 tracks used the convector unit. The OEM Delco AM/FM mono and AM/FM stereo radios are a stand alone unit.

When I bought it in 2002, my 75 Lemans Sport Coupe had a Jensen am/fm cassette in it. Nice radio, but not original of course. The car came with the original purchase order sheet, which shows that it originally came with an "am/tape" radio for $199 from the factory. It must have been an 8 track, since it had the convector hanging under the right side of the dash, above the glove box. Not needing it, or knowing what the convector was at the time, I removed it and threw it away. Too bad I didn't know what it was because someone might could have used it. It was in perfect condition.

Default 75 Grand Am Radio

Just wanted to Thank everyone for their replies. It helps to know that the radio if not 8 track can stand alone and work.

Are you still in need of a radio for your car ?? I have an AM, an AM/FM & an AM/FM stereo 8 track that I just had gone through & work like new once again. It had some internals replaced & the belt & something was done with the tuner. But now this one works like new. I don't know exactly what he did to it but I did ask him to give it a little more power if he could, & now it sound great. The AM & AM/FM work but are originals & could probably use some freshening up to.
