That looks awesome! I was on the fence about installing a ram air pan, but you may have convinced me. I've heard there are issues with the aftermarket hood scoop inserts fitting original hoods, and I'm hesitant to cut open my original insert. Are you using an aftermarket hood scoop insert, or did you cut open your original?

I will cut my original, I think it hides the rails nicely, and a quick peek when the hood goes up, might fool some. I just want reliability.

Yeah, I agree. The ram air pan makes the fuel rails a lot less conspicuous.

The aftermarket scoops do not fit factory hoods. I used a Dynacorn hood with the aftermarket scoop and it still needed some work. The fit and finish were good overall.

I may just look for a used hood scoop, either one that's been opened up, or that needs cutting, and keep my original , just in case

Yeah, that's how I feel. Kinda want to keep the original intact just in case I ever want to go back. I find it sort of surprising that in this day in age when anything can be scanned and 3D printed fairly easily, nobody has come out with a better fitting aftermarket hood scoop insert.

How much are you asking for it?

I think I paid $100 for the aftermarket scoop(open) so I think an original would be worth at least that.

4th of July update: I'm happy to report that the body is now 99.8% done with metal work. We're still going to do a little bit of lead work in a few spots, but it's minor and will happen very soon. The big thing is that there is NO MORE RUST REPAIR left to do! Here are a few photos from the last couple of weeks.

Last of the cowl repairs. Still need to smooth the welds a tad more.

Replaced the entire bottom inside lip on the trunk lid.

Was able to track down & buy an undamaged original header panel. Also got an original hood scoop insert that I'm going to open up for ram air. Not pictured here is an automatic console top that I also purchased to replace mine which was cut up. Thank you to Joe Barber in Pennsylvania for the goods!

Spent a good many hours removing the remaining rustproofing from the underside of the floorboards. Not fun work, but came out well. I smoothed out the floor patch welds today after this photo was taken.

Behold! One rust-free GTO body!

We've gone over every square millimeter of this body over the past six months, and although there is still plenty of work ahead, it feels very good to have the metal work in the rear view mirror. I'm currently getting materials together to prime & undercoat the underside and then put it on the chassis. Gotta keep putting one foot in front of the other.

I think there might be an issue with my photos not displaying above, whereby I can see them but others cannot. So, I will repost them again here. If you all can see both sets, my apologies for the redundancy.

ZeGerman...Looking Awesome. Thanks for posting to my build thread - So I found your build thread...Glad your rust repairs are done.

I wonder if our body guy/metal fabricators are related (haha). BTW - I envy your club shop. Workspace is at a premium here in Boise.

Thanks for the kind words! My bank account is also glad the rust repairs are done. I'm looking forward to watching your build continue to unfold.

Yeah, space is at a premium here in Seattle, too. I'd be much happier if my house had a garage to store the GTO, but renting shop space as an alternative has worked out pretty well. It's additional cost, but cars are my primary hobby and I have enjoyed meeting like-minded folks. Has been a positive experience overall.
