67 GTO carb ID question
What is the purpose of the broadcast code after the build date code?
More importantly, how do you decipher it? I have a 67 gto HO, manual trans...so my carb is 7027263 Tag says K6 and then WB... or maybe W8... hard to tell if letter B or number 8. Last edited by pilot737; 07-10-2020 at 06:30 PM. Reason: added phote |

I should have attached the picture in the first post. It's there now... don't notice a color other than silver.

Possibly been 'cleaned'.
Not real sure on the 67 and older round tags, Jon probably can explain better. I think it (WB) could have been a 'pick' code at the Rochester plant? I think the tag color is what the car plant used as the 'pick' code? (color) The K6 is a date code, I believe. That tag would have been gold I think.

WT/335hp and WS/360hp engines used that same carb.
WB was the quick-pick identifier code for the assembly line plant worker. Versus keeping up with and verifying 7 digit numbers. Engines went to the various assembly plants without carbs installed, then during the assembly line process - they installed the carbs. You can find the WB code listed in the CARB box on this 1967 plant sheet. |
