A buddy with a 20,000 mile 1970 Trans am is having underhood wiring harness issues. The harness from the firewall to the coil is too hot to touch. Bad coil maybe ?? Any help would be awesome.
Thanks in advance

If stock, somewhere in that circuit is a piece of "resistance wire". Takes the place of a ballast resistor. It will run hot. High performance coil will make it even hotter.

The resistance wire Bill mentioned is where your harness is heating up.
Is the engine running like it's suppose to? Under what conditions are you feeling of the wires? Point distributor or electronic? A narrow point gap will make the resistance wire get hotter than normal with engine running. Key 'on', engine off, points closed... And the resistance wire can get smoking hot. Key 'on', engine off, points open... The resistance wire shouldn't heat up at all. Clay |
