Default GTO Radio Antenna on Boat--not car related

I have a '64/65 A body antenna assy. left over from my two restorations. Would a car antenna work well on a fiberglass boat for a Pioneer AM/FM radio? The 36" wire supplied by Bayliner for the radio antenna is horrible.

Is there an issue with car-type antennas on a fiberglass boat due to the lack of a metal mounting surface (ground)?

IN any case, what's the best way to get decent radio reception on my boat?

Those antennas are not easy to find Dick. Sell it and buy a cheap aftermarket one for your boat.

The antenna I refer to is not suitable for a GTO restoration. My question is about function, not worried about anything else.

I don't see why not. I've never dealt with an antenna that needed to be "grounded."

Interesting question.....I would think a ground plane is more important for a transmitting antenna than a receive-only antenna. Corvettes are essentially the same as boats... anyone know if the is a metal plane embedded under the glass?

I installed an antenna on my boat, seems to work ok in a metro area say 60 mile radius. I believe some OEM boats just have a hidden radio antenna.

I'd think the base of the antenna would have all the ground it needs (if needed) through the shield in the coax cable.

I do know they work fine when not mounted.
