Hey guys
Was the master cylinder Painted black from the factory? Or were the natural metal color (no paint )
Here is a pic of my original that I’m going to have rebuilt soon.

I'm not sure about the original finish, but you can easily rebuild the master cylinder yourself. Kits are available from several vendors. I recently tried to buy a new master cylinder for my 67, and none looked original. So I rebuilt my old one myself and it works well. I think mine is original and has no paint on it, it's natural metal.

I'm pretty sure they were not painted, and were just bare metal. This of course means that they develop surface rust within months. Personally, I chose to paint mine with the Eastwood master cylinder paint, which provides a similar appearance to an unpainted, non-rusted bare metal MC, but it of course prevents rust from developing and is brake fluid resistant.

The original untouched master cylinders on cars that I've personally owned have always had a few remnants of satin black paint left on them. I assume that it was a pretty thin coat of paint and wore off quickly, but they were painted. I've seen other examples with far more paint left than mine. You can see some of it here on my 67's original cylinder around the casting numbers & Delco M characters and some on the three round "nipples". Another photo of a very low mileage '69 Pontiac cylinder with most of its paint left.
