Default Picked up a Scooped Hood

Not that I needed one but a friend let me know about this "73 GTO" hood that was for sale about an hour east of Toronto in the heart of GM Canada country. I called the seller and he told me he had it for over 20 years, was moving and wanted it gone, I was able to determine that it was original black paint with the scoop inserts. I told him I would take it sight unseen. I agreed to pay him cash...$150.

The hood may be better than the one on my car. The scoop inserts were so nice I took them out to transport the hood home. (no backing plates) I think it came from a Grand Am or trim option car since it has the chrome strip at the cowl. Anyway I strapped it to the roof of my Suburban, that thing is actually wider than a Suburban, and brought it home.

I was clearing my blackberry last night and saw these on it, they are pretty bad. Do you have blackflies down south? If you do you'll understand why no pre-load pics.

That's a '75 or service replacement NACA hood, so it's technically not correct for your 1973 GT.

Yup, I mentioned to the seller it was not a '73 GTO hood but he was quick to point out the date stamp on the underside that showed 1973. This is not the first time I have seen this 1973 stamped on the underside of these hoods without cowl vents. He could not remember whether the car was a GT or Grand Am that the hood was from. It seems that every time I find one of these hoods for sale here in Canada it is the version with no vents which makes perfect sense since GM Canada only produced 231 1973 GTO's.

LOL...no but we have terrible humidity and mosquitos the size of sparrows.

First time I've ever heard anyone refer to Maryland as "down south".

I have two 1975 in real good shape and the third one not so good, I also have a rusty in the front lip, 1973-74 hood with the top vents, so four in total and they all have inserts. Two are on my two 1975 Grand Am's ...

No you have it wrong again it's spelled NASA just as printed in every piece of paper printed by PONTIAC, again your the one who is WRONG. Don't correct those of us who are already correct. By now you should know better.

NACA...NASA...the correct terminology for the scoop in the hood is NACA...Pontiac literature calls the hood NASA...blah blah blah.

Did you see last months issue of HPP where Tom DeMauro says Pontiac got it wrong in calling it NASA?

110% correct... Call it whatever you may, but those of us who research these cars and know them in and out know the correct terminology.............

i really couldnt care , but i figure the correct term would be whatever pontiac named it. wrong or not that is what they named it and is what in my opinion the correct name should be when discussing the pontiac made hood. just my opinion, but again i couldnt care less what someone wants to call it. i have more important things to worry about.

Tom G. may say that Pontiac got it wrong , but do you really think they would let it go for 4+ years without correcting it thierselves. NO, they would correct it as they did several time on several things over the years. If it was a mistake the only one who thinks it seems to be Tom. So I guess we have 2 that say the other. But still Pontaic says it's a NASA hood, you don't have just scoops on your car so the hood termed NASA is the correct way & you should just get over it & say what Pontiac says it is & stop trying to be so difficult. Your beating your head on a wall & the only thing your going to get is a headach & a cut on your head. Just take your ball & go play in some one elses field or agree that we are correct & your wrong.
